Who can apply: Open to local, independently owned or nonprofit news organizations in the city of Chicago and nearby suburbs. Also open to journalism support organizations and academic institutions equipped to support Chicago-based news organizations. For-profit organizations must apply with a nonprofit fiscal sponsor. Must be a nonprofit agency with 501(c)(3) status not classified as a private foundation, or have a nonprofit fiscal sponsor. Projects must benefit more than one media organization and align with the stated goals.
Journalism Program
Who can apply: Supports journalism organizations and projects whose reporting illuminates Joyce program areas in the Great Lakes region; also supports strengthening the nonprofit journalism network and early-career journalists, particularly journalists of color.
Journalism for Adventist Solutions (JAS)
Who can apply: Qualified 501(c)(3) organizations headquartered in North America in one of the listed categories. Payroll, salaries, and benefits are not covered.
Media Program
Who can apply: Eligible organizations must be classified under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation does not make grants to individuals, for-profit entities, endowments, or for debt reduction.
Farmed Animal Advocacy Grants with Strategic Support
Who can apply: Nonprofits focused on farmed animals, plant-based food systems, or alternative proteins; work to reduce, reform, or replace animals in food production; movement-building, business engagement, government-focused interventions, or public initiatives. Does not fund for-profits, companion/wild animal work, direct animal care, or unrelated food systems work.
