Who can apply: Journalists from national and local print, digital, trade, and broadcast news organizations, including nonprofit and for-profit news organizations, as well as freelancers, are welcome to apply.
From Vermont Community Foundation
Who can apply: Vermont-based nonprofit and governmental entities may apply. Nonprofit applicants may collaborate with Vermont-based for-profit news outlets. Applying or collaborating news outlets must have at least one reporter in Vermont creating original local news content. Projects must prioritize community engagement and may not target a national audience, provide general operating support, fund debt reduction, previously incurred expenses, or include religious instruction.
Who can apply: Supports mostly nonprofit journalism organizations and projects producing high-quality, investigative or issue-focused coverage related to Joyce program areas in the Great Lakes region. Limited general operating support may be available; documentary filmmaking and general journalism education for students are not supported.
From Montana Newspaper Foundation
Who can apply: Applicants must be newspapers or news organizations. The intern must be at least 16 years old and interested in pursuing a career in community journalism. Selected organizations must provide the Montana Newspaper Association with a photo and profile of the intern for use in press releases or newsletters. The grant must be matched by the applicant for intern compensation; the page describes a 50% match while the application form specifies a 1:1 match.
From Foundation of Umw Chapter of Natas
Who can apply: Applicants must be high schools or 501(c)(3) secondary or post-secondary educational organizations in the Upper Midwest Chapter region. Proposals should have significant impact on student achievement and engagement, affect a significant number of students or have substantial long-term impact on a smaller group, be primarily non-consumable, include a specific budget, and support video production, television, or broadcast journalism. Applicants that received an Upper Midwest Emmy Classroom Grant within the prior two school years are ineligible. Funds may not be used for travel, staff or teacher stipends, substitute teachers, furniture, or requests below $500 or above $2,000.
Who can apply: Requests must align with the Foundation’s focus areas and be submitted through the online grants portal. The Foundation does not fund requests outside its focus areas or individuals.
