The V & L Marx Foundation concentrates large, unrestricted gifts to institutions that provide healthcare, civic cultural life, and library services, with a visible preference for organizations connected to New York/Westchester but occasional support beyond the region. Most grants are general corporate support, suggesting trust in institutional leadership and flexible use of funds. Repeated, large awards to a single hospital indicate a strong commitment to local healthcare infrastructure, while significant gifts to Yale, the New York Philharmonic, and public libraries show interest in higher education, arts, and public knowledge access.
The V & L Marx Foundation makes large, flexible gifts across healthcare, education, arts, and library institutions, with White Plains Hospital appearing as a repeated anchor in the recent grants list. The foundation’s recent giving shows a preference for general corporate support rather than project-specific funding, and several of its largest awards go to established institutions that serve public needs in the New York/Westchester area. Beyond healthcare, its recent record includes major support for Yale University, the New York Philharmonic, and public library organizations, showing a broad institutional portfolio rather than a single-cause strategy. A set of grants to community-serving organizations in Westchester and nearby areas further points to a regional pattern of institutional support. The foundation also extends some grants outside the immediate region, including awards to organizations in Florida and Oregon. Across the recent grants shown here, the common thread is unrestricted support for organizations with ongoing operating needs, especially those providing healthcare access, cultural programming, higher education, and library services.
Healthcare is a central thread in the foundation’s recent grantmaking. It gave $2,185,000 to White Plains Hospital for general corporate purpose, and $755,000 to Boca Grande Health Clinic Foundation for the same purpose. Education also appears prominently: Yale Child Study Center received $250,000 in 2025, while Teachers College Columbia University received $160,000 in 2024 and again in 2023. In arts funding, the New York Philharmonic received $725,000 in 2024, $475,000 in 2025, and $430,000 in 2023, all for general corporate purpose. Library access is another recurring theme, with grants to Friends of Scarsdale Library, the Library Foundation for Multnomah County Library, and Reading Results.
Typical grant size is $5,000 at the 25th percentile, $10,000 at the median, and $25,000 at the 75th percentile, though the recent grants list also includes very large institutional awards in the six- and seven-figure range. The pattern suggests repeated support for some recipients across multiple years: White Plains Hospital, Yale University, the New York Philharmonic, Westchester Community College Foundation, and Mount Sinai Health System all appear more than once. The foundation is a regular funder rather than a DAF, does not fund individuals, and does not make program-related investments. The grant descriptions shown are overwhelmingly general corporate purpose, indicating flexible operating support.
