The Eisenstadt Charitable Foundation concentrates its modest giving on a small set of recipients, providing sizable, unrestricted support. A plurality of funding goes to a single synagogue (West End Temple) via repeated grants, while the remainder supports disease-research charities. Grants are described as general/operating support, suggesting a preference for flexible funding to trusted organizations.
Concentrated, selective giving: few, relatively large grants with repeat support to a primary grantee (West End Temple) and one-time gifts to national medical research charities; emphasis on general operating support rather than project-specific funding.
Notable grantees: West End Temple, Lustgarten Foundation, JDRF
Repeated support for West End Temple stands out in the Marvin and Barbara Eisenstadt Charatble Foundation’s recent giving, with grants of $50,000 in 2023 and $45,000 in both 2024 and 2025. That pattern shows a funder that backs a small circle of familiar recipients rather than spreading money widely. The foundation’s larger awards also extend to health research organizations, including the Lustgarten Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, indicating a second major thread alongside synagogue support. The grant list suggests a preference for flexible funding. Many awards are labeled general, exempt purpose, or operating support, and the recipients recur across multiple years. Alongside its faith-based and research giving, the foundation also funds neighborhood and community organizations in the Rockaway and Brooklyn areas, such as the Neponsit Property Owners Association and the Rockaway Theatre Company. Its annual grants total is $454,590, which sits within a modest, concentrated pattern of philanthropy.
The Marvin and Barbara Eisenstadt Charatble Foundation gives across a small set of linked causes rather than a broad portfolio. In synagogue support, it awarded $45,000 to West End Temple in 2025 for exempt purpose. In disease research, it gave $17,090 to the Lustgarten Foundation in 2025 for exempt purpose and $17,000 to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in 2025 for exempt purpose. Community and neighborhood organizations also appear in the record. The foundation granted $15,000 to Rockaway Theatre Company in 2025 for exempt purpose, and $10,000 to Neponsit Property Owners Association in 2025 for exempt purpose. Health-related institutional support is another strand, with $10,000 to Maimonides Research and Development Foundation in 2025 for exempt purpose and $5,000 to NY Presbyterian Fund in 2025 for exempt purpose.
Grant sizes cluster at the smaller end of the foundation’s range: p25 is $2,000, median grant size is $5,000, and p75 is $10,000. Even so, a few awards rise well above that band, including multiple $45,000 grants and a $50,000 grant. The record also shows repeated support to the same recipients across 2023, 2024, and 2025, which points to continuing relationships rather than one-off awards. The foundation is not described as funding individuals or making program-related investments.
