General Grantmaking (Hugh J. Andersen Foundation)

Who can apply: Applicants must be qualified charitable organizations tax-exempt under IRS Code 501(c)(3) and not classified as private foundations. The Foundation does not fund individuals, loans, lobbying, fundraising dinners or events, travel, fiscal agents, debt reduction, after-the-fact expenses, major endowment or capital requests as a priority, or generally organizations/programs such as athletic teams, child care centers, private or alternative schools, religious institutions, political/voter education programs, immigration/refugee programs, independent media productions, civic action groups, business/economics education, and arts organizations exclusively focused on music, dance, or visual arts. Programs should generally be asset-based and community-driven, with priority to the stated geographic and programmatic areas.

Deadline: Quarterly deadlines are March 15, June 15, August 15, and November 15. Letters of inquiry are reviewed at the next Foundation board meeting; a full proposal may then be requested for the following board meeting.

Capital or Campaign Support

Who can apply: Applicants must be qualified charitable organizations tax-exempt under IRS Code 501(c)(3) and not classified as private foundations. The Foundation does not fund individuals, loans, lobbying, fundraising dinners or events, travel, fiscal agents, debt reduction, or after-the-fact situations. It generally will not fund religious institutions, private or alternative schools, athletic teams, child care centers, political or voter education, immigration/refugee programs, independent media productions, or arts organizations exclusively focused on music, dance or visual arts.

Deadline: The next application deadline is November 16, 2026; the online application will be available October 1, 2026. Regular proposal or letter-of-inquiry deadlines are March 15, June 15, August 15 and November 15, with the next business day used when a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday.

General Grantmaking (General Operating, Program, Capital/Campaign Support)

Who can apply: Applicants must be qualified charitable organizations tax-exempt under IRS Code 501(c)(3) and not classified as private foundations. The Foundation does not fund individuals, loans, lobbying, fundraising dinners or events, travel, fiscal agents, debt reduction, after-the-fact situations, religious institutions, private or alternative schools, athletic teams, child care centers, political or voter education, immigration/refugee programs, independent media productions, or arts organizations exclusively focused on music, dance or visual arts. Organizations with 10 or more years of uninterrupted support may request a two-year grant. Letters of inquiry are generally recommended for organizations new to the Foundation or outside the St. Croix Valley.

Valley Arts Grant Program

Administered by St Croix Valley Foundation

Who can apply: Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, government, tribal, educational, or religious entity, or partner with an eligible fiscal agent. Programming must occur within the six-county service area. Individuals and for-profit businesses are not eligible; arts must be at the core of the mission for general operating support.
