Alexion Access Foundation is a corporate philanthropy vehicle that primarily funds patient access to high-cost, specialty therapies by providing donated vials of Alexion products at no charge to eligible patients who cannot afford them. Its giving is narrowly focused on supporting medication access programs for rare and ultra-rare disease treatments rather than broad community causes. The foundation repeatedly funds the same product-specific distribution programs across multiple years, indicating an operational emphasis on sustaining drug-assistance pipelines.
Alexion Access Foundation’s largest recent grant was a 2025 distribution of Strensiq vials valued at $70,366,296, a clear signal that the foundation functions as a product-access vehicle rather than a conventional grantmaker. Its core activity is providing Alexion medicines at no charge to eligible patients who cannot afford the prescribed product, with recurring distributions tied to specialty therapies used for rare and ultra-rare disease care. The recent record shows sustained support for several named products, including Strensiq, Ultomiris, Soliris, Koselugo, and Kanuma, all delivered through the same access model. That pattern points to a foundation built around medication assistance programs and direct service for patients facing financial barriers to treatment. The grants are issued from New Haven and land with the same operational purpose: moving donated vials to eligible patients through product-specific distribution programs. Rather than broad issue-area giving, the foundation concentrates on maintaining access pipelines for a small set of high-cost therapies. The repeated appearance of the same products across multiple years suggests an ongoing administrative role in sustaining those channels over time.
Patient access to specialty therapies is the central theme. In 2025, Alexion Access Foundation gave $45,030,794 for vials of Ultomiris distributed at no charge to eligible patients who could not afford the prescribed product, and in 2024 it gave $36,687,708 for vials of Soliris distributed under the same access model. The foundation also supports other product-specific assistance streams. It awarded $7,299,824 in 2024 for vials of Koselugo and $3,920,640 in 2024 for vials of Kanuma, both described as no-charge distribution to eligible patients. Across the recent grants, the purpose text is consistent: Alexion product is provided at no charge to patients unable to afford it.
Grant size is highly concentrated at the top end: the p25 is $4,350,598, the median is $25,637,347, and the p75 is $39,429,808. That distribution reflects large in-kind product grants rather than small discretionary awards. The pattern is recurring, not one-off: the same therapy programs appear in 2023, 2024, and 2025, with repeated distributions for the same products across years. Alexion Access Foundation is a corporate philanthropy vehicle, and it makes program-related investments: False. The grants are structured as no-charge product distributions tied to eligibility-based patient assistance.

Highly concentrated: very large, repeated grants focused on a small number of product-distribution programs (three grants each for several drugs). Funding is transactional and program-specific (drug vial distribution) rather than diversified across many NGOs or sectors.
Notable grantees: Vials of Strensiq (patient assistance program), Vials of Soliris (patient assistance program), Vials of Ultomiris (patient assistance program), Vials of Koselugo (patient assistance program)
Giving is local and entirely domestic in the recent record. All listed grants went to recipients in the United States, and 100% of grants were made to recipients in the HQ state of Connecticut. The recipient city shown throughout the grants list is New Haven, with every recent grant landing there. That makes the geographic footprint unusually concentrated: one city, one state, one country.

The p25 grant size is $4,350,598, the median is $25,637,347, and the p75 is $39,429,808. The recent record is dominated by very large product-distribution grants rather than small awards.
Yes. The recent grants show repeated distributions for the same products across 2023, 2024, and 2025, including Strensiq, Ultomiris, Soliris, Koselugo, and Kanuma. That indicates an ongoing support pattern rather than isolated one-time awards.
