Organizations must work within Berks County, preferably be headquartered there. The Foundation generally will not fund for-profit enterprises, individuals, scholarships, endowments, sustaining operating funds, religious or fraternal activities, sponsorships, events, animal rights programs, or activities that could jeopardize its charitable status. Applicants should identify the criticality of the issue, provide measurable indicators, and have other funding sources because the Foundation should not be the sole funder.

Organizations based nationwide or internationally may apply, although the foundation has a particular interest in projects in Laguna Beach and Southern California. Proposals must address specific objectives, include a timeline, describe anticipated impact, and suggest how results could be replicated or have broader impact. Administrative costs, salaries, endowment requests, and general operating support are not eligible.
