Events must demonstrate humanities research and practice in accessible ways, be held during April 17–May 1, 2027, be free to attend, be representative and inclusive, consider accessibility, and address diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in programming, speakers, venues, and platforms. Academic lectures and symposia are not eligible. Grants are intended for concrete event costs and cannot cover indirect costs or overhead.

The festival must take place outdoors in a public space, be free to the public without reserved tickets, required donations, pre-registration, pay-what-you-can entry, or required RSVPs, have a theme or programmatic focus, include live music and performance as a significant component, feature professional musicians who are compensated, and run for at least four hours on one day, multiple consecutive days, or two consecutive weekends. Seasonal and long-running events, as well as standalone performances and concert series, are ineligible.
