The Marvin Ronald Bernstein Foundation appears to fund local faith-based activity, providing unrestricted support to a single congregation in Upland, CA. Its only recorded grant is a $30,000 general support award to West Hills Covenant Church, indicating a preference for direct operational support of a local religious institution.
Highly concentrated: a single, relatively large general support grant to one local church; no evidence of diversified or repeated grantmaking across other organizations.
The Marvin Ronald Bernstein Foundation gives largely unrestricted support to faith-based and community-serving organizations, with a pattern of repeated grants to the same recipients over multiple years. Its recent giving includes $30,000 to West Hills Covenant Church in 2024 and $25,000 to Portland Covenant Church in the same year, followed by continued support for both organizations in 2025. The foundation also appears to back religious education and related local services, as shown by grants to Life Bible Fellowship Inc for a playground and Bible education program, and to Community of the Word for its gospel outreach general fund. Beyond churches and schools, the portfolio reaches into health and family support, including awards to Kenya Community Health Clinic Ministries, Pacific Lifeline, and Choices Women’s Resource Center. The grant record suggests a funder that favors direct support for organizations already operating in its orbit, rather than one-off projects, and that often returns to the same grantees with additional general operating help. Most recorded grants fall in the five-figure range, with several awards at $10,000 and above.
Faith-based organizations make up a major part of the grant record. The foundation gave $20,000 to Life Bible Fellowship Inc for a playground and Bible education program, $10,500 to Community of the Word for its gospel outreach general fund, and $10,000 to Ontario Christian School for general support. Support also extends to institutions serving families and individuals in crisis. It awarded $20,000 to Kenya Community Health Clinic Ministries for general support and $10,000 to Pacific Lifeline for general support. Educational and counseling-related organizations also appear in the portfolio, including $15,000 to The Master’s University and $10,000 to Samaritan Counseling Center, both for general support. The named grants show a preference for organizations tied to religion, education, health, and family services.
Typical awards cluster tightly around the five-figure level: the p25 is $7,500, the median is $10,000, and the p75 is $10,500. The recent record also includes larger awards such as $30,000 and $25,000, but most grants sit near $10,000 or slightly above it. The pattern is recurring rather than one-off, with several recipients appearing in both 2024 and 2025, often for general support. The foundation is a private foundation, and it funds individuals. Its grantmaking is local in scope, with a strong concentration in California.
