The Marc Haas Foundation makes large, targeted gifts to prominent New York City–based institutions, splitting support between local neighborhood social services and elite biomedical research. With only two recorded grants, the foundation appears to favor high-dollar, impact-oriented contributions to established organizations rather than many small awards.
Very concentrated giving: a small number of large grants (roughly equal-sized six-figure gifts) to established New York institutions rather than broad, dispersed funding or many repeat small awards.
A 2025 gift of $550,000 to Lenox Hill Neighborhood House shows the Marc Haas Foundation’s pattern: concentrated support for a small set of established New York institutions, with a mix of neighborhood services, research, and major cultural organizations. The foundation’s recent giving reaches both direct community support and institutional philanthropy, including $510,000 to Rockefeller University in 2025 and repeated seven-figure-style support across multiple years to organizations such as the American Museum of Natural History, Carnegie Hall Society Inc, and the Council on Foreign Relations. Its portfolio also includes public media and civic organizations, alongside social-service grants tied to Manhattan residents. The overall picture is of a funder that works through sizable, targeted gifts rather than a broad spread of smaller awards. In the recorded grants, the foundation consistently backs recognizable New York City institutions that serve either local communities, public audiences, or biomedical and academic research programs. That mix suggests a grantmaker interested in both immediate human services and longer-term institutional capacity within New York City.
Neighborhood social services are a clear part of the foundation’s profile. In 2025, it gave $550,000 to Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, aligning with its support for community-based human services in Manhattan. Biomedical and basic medical research is another recurring area: the foundation gave $510,000 to Rockefeller University in 2025, and The Rockefeller University also appears multiple times in the recent grants list at $100,000 levels in earlier years. The foundation also supports major cultural and public-interest institutions. American Museum of Natural History received $400,000 in each of 2023, 2024, and 2025, while Carnegie Hall Society Inc received $200,000 in each of 2023, 2024, and 2025. These patterns point to steady institutional support across research, culture, and local social services.
Typical awards cluster in the five-figure to low six-figure range, with a p25 of $10,000, a median of $15,000, and a p75 of $25,000. The recent grants list, however, also shows several much larger gifts, indicating that the foundation occasionally makes substantial institutional awards. Grantmaking appears concentrated rather than dispersed: only a small number of recipients show up repeatedly across multiple years, especially among New York City cultural and research institutions. The foundation does not fund individuals and does not make program-related investments. The grant record provided does not show an application process.
