The Katherine & Kamal Agarwal Family Foundation concentrates its giving on organizations serving India-focused social and educational causes, with a clear emphasis on nonprofit partners working on education access and community welfare. Grants are few but large, and the foundation favors repeat, high-value commitments to a small set of grantees rather than broad, one-off funding. The pattern suggests a strategic, donor-driven approach to strengthening particular organizations rather than funding many disparate projects.
Highly concentrated: five total grants totaling $1.4M, dominated by large gifts and repeat funding (ARPAN Foundation received multiple, substantial awards). Preference for sizable, unrestricted/charitable contributions to established partners rather than many small grants.
The Katherine & Kamal Agarwal Family Foundation’s recent record is defined by large charitable contributions to a small circle of India-focused nonprofits, led by a $600,000 grant to Arpan Foundation Inc in 2024 and a $300,000 grant to Arpan Foundation in 2023. That pattern points to a funder that makes substantial, recurring commitments rather than spreading support across many organizations. The foundation’s giving also includes six-figure support for education-oriented groups such as Pratham USA, Friends of Teach for India Inc, Foundation of Teach for India Inc, Akansha Education Fund Inc, and Educate Girls. Across the grants on file, the emphasis is on charitable contribution support for organizations working on education access, community welfare, and broader India-focused social causes. The recipient list shows a mix of established nonprofit partners and repeat support to the same organizations across years, which suggests continuity in funding relationships. With annual grants of $1.8 million and a median grant size of $150,000, the foundation operates at a scale where each award is material to the recipient organization.
Education is a core theme in the foundation’s recent grants. It gave $200,000 to Pratham USA in 2024 and $150,000 to Friends of Teach for India Inc in the same year, both as charitable contributions. Support also reached Foundation of Teach for India Inc with a $150,000 grant in 2024 and Akansha Education Fund Inc with a $100,000 grant in 2024. The pattern extends to girls’ education as well: Educate Girls received $100,000 in 2023 and another $100,000 in 2024, through recipients in Austin and Forest Hills. Alongside education, the foundation has backed community welfare work through Arpan Foundation Inc and Arpan Foundation, including $600,000 in 2024 and $300,000 in 2023. The repeated support for these organizations shows a focus on institution-level funding rather than isolated project grants.
Grant sizes cluster in the six-figure range, with a p25 of $100,000, a median of $150,000, and a p75 of $200,000. The distribution indicates relatively concentrated funding rather than many small awards. The recent grant list also shows repeat support across years: Arpan Foundation and Arpan Foundation Inc appear in both 2023 and 2024, as do Pratham USA and Educate Girls. The foundation is structured as a family foundation, and the grants shown are charitable contributions rather than program-related investments or individual aid. The recurring pattern suggests ongoing relationships with a limited set of nonprofits.
