The Sara Chait Memorial Foundation concentrates its giving on medical and emergency-response causes, with a clear interest in supporting Israeli emergency/defense medical services alongside local/regional health charities. Grants are purposeful and sizable, funding ambulance/rescue units, major Israeli medical centers, volunteer medical initiatives, and pediatric cancer support. The foundation favors mission-driven medical organizations rather than broad social services.
The Sara Chait Memorial Foundation Inc gives at the intersection of emergency medicine, Israeli health institutions, and child-focused medical support. Its largest recent grant, $151,000 to Afmda in 2024, signals a willingness to make outsized gifts to organizations tied to medical response and rescue. That pattern continues through support for American Friends of Unit 669 in Livingston, NJ, and American Friends of Sheba Med Ctr in New York, NY, placing military medical evacuation, emergency response, and major hospital systems at the center of its portfolio. The foundation also backs regional medical and social-service organizations in New York and New Jersey, including Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative in Hackensack, NJ, and The Sharing Shelf in Port Chester, NY. Pediatric and child health appears as a recurring thread as well, with grants to Making Headway Foundation in Chappaqua, NY, Child Life Program in Oceanside, NY, and Voices for Children of Broward Co in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Across the recent record, it favors mission-specific institutions rather than broad, general-purpose philanthropy.
One clear theme is support for Israeli emergency and defense medical services. In 2025, the foundation gave $54,000 to American Friends of Unit 669 in Livingston, NJ, and in 2024 it gave $151,000 to Afmda in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. A second theme is funding for major Israeli hospitals and medical centers. Recent grants include $33,000 to American Friends of Sheba Med Ctr in New York, NY, $20,000 to American Friends of Rabin Med Ctr in New York, NY, and $20,000 to American Committee for Shaare Zedek in New York, NY. The foundation also supports pediatric cancer and child-focused charities. Making Headway Foundation in Chappaqua, NY received $20,000 in 2024 and 2025, Larger Than Life in Long Island City, NY received $35,000 in 2024, $25,000 in 2023, and $10,000 in 2025, and Child Life Program in Oceanside, NY received $10,020 in 2025.
Typical grants cluster around a modest-to-midrange institutional level: p25 is $2,000, median grant size is $10,000, and p75 is $20,000. The recent record also includes a much larger outlier at $151,000. Recipients recur across multiple years, including Larger Than Life, Making Headway Foundation, Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative, Boca Regional Hospital, Jewish National Fund, and the Rabin Medical Center-related grantees. The foundation appears to use direct charitable grants rather than program-related investments, and it does not fund individuals.
