The Ralph Hull Foundation concentrates its giving on local community basic needs and public-safety related services in the Marion/Polk County area. Its large, targeted gifts fund operating and program support for frontline organizations that provide emergency response, youth education/outreach, and food assistance. The foundation appears to favor a small number of substantial grants rather than a broad portfolio.
The Ralph Hull Foundation’s recent giving is anchored by repeated, sizable support for Marion-Polk Food Share, including multiple six-figure grants in 2024 and 2025 for food-share work in Salem. That pattern points to a foundation that funds local safety-net services with sustained, concentrated commitments rather than a wide spread of small awards. Across its recent grants, the foundation backs organizations that handle emergency response, food assistance, youth programming, and community services in Marion and Polk counties. The portfolio also shows continued support for Southside Youth Outreach in Corvallis for summer school program support, along with grants to Salem Fire Foundation for general program funding and mission support. Other local recipients include Willamette University, Community Outreach Inc, United Way of Benton County, Isaac’s Room, and Pathfinder Clubhouse, suggesting a grantmaker that stays close to a defined community network in Oregon. The foundation also funds individuals and uses both operating and program support grants, which fits a practical, service-oriented approach to philanthropy.
Housing and food security are a recurring priority. The Ralph Hull Foundation gave $112,500 and $105,000 to Marion Polk Food Share in 2025 for food-share work, and also supported Community Outreach Inc in Corvallis with $65,000 and $57,500 in 2025 for housing/food share. Youth education is another clear theme. Southside Youth Outreach received $160,000 in 2023, $95,000 in 2024, and $90,000 in 2025 for summer school program support. The foundation also funds health and human services. Salem Free Clinics received $50,000 in 2023 for its patient navigator program, while Pathfinder Clubhouse received $50,000 in 2023 and $50,000 in 2025 for adults with mental illness programming. Support for people with developmental disabilities appears in grants to Special Olympics Oregon, including $50,000 in 2025.
Typical grants cluster in the five-figure range, with a p25 of $5,000, a median of $11,500, and a p75 of $30,029. The recent list shows repeated awards to the same organizations across multiple years, especially in food security, youth programming, and community services, which indicates ongoing relationships rather than one-time gifts. The foundation also makes grants to individuals, and its pattern includes both general operating and program-specific support. It does not make program-related investments.
