About Market Lubbock Economic Development
Market Lubbock Economic Development Corporation’s recent grantmaking is shaped by three large commitments to the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, including two $1,000,000 awards in 2024 and 2025 and a $1,000,000 renovation grant in 2023. That pattern points to a funder working through major community development projects rather than many small awards. The corporation also backed Texas Tech University with three consecutive grants for the school’s Innovation and Research Park, adding $400,000 in 2023, $425,000 in 2024, and $434,500 in 2025. Those awards sit alongside support for building updates, renovations, and business development across Lubbock-area organizations and businesses. Its grant history shows a strong preference for capital-oriented work, with funding tied to construction, updates, and redevelopment rather than unrestricted operating support. The corporation’s portfolio also reaches into workforce training and cultural infrastructure, which broadens its economic development role beyond real estate and tourism-related projects.
What Market Lubbock Economic Development Funds
A major thread in the portfolio is business and community development in Lubbock. The foundation gave $1,000,000 to Lubbock Economic Development Alliance in 2025 and another $1,000,000 in 2024 to assist with business development in the community. Capital work is another recurring area: it awarded $125,000 to Teinert Commercial Building in 2023 for a renovation project that included site demolition, masonry, structural steel, framing, plumbing, and electrical work, and $98,810 to Discovery Healthcare in 2024 for building updates and renovations. Workforce preparation appears as well, with $99,350 to Levelland ISD in 2025 for equipment needs for high-demand job training classes and $44,488 to Hale Center ISD in 2025 for the same purpose. Cultural development is part of the mix too, including $75,000 to Lubbock Experience Inc. dba Lcaf in 2025 to support the development of the arts community.
