The Marcia H Randall Foundation concentrates sizable, place-based grants in the Portland, OR area, funding long-term youth mentoring, major cultural institutions, and public library services. Its awards are large unrestricted support gifts to a small number of nonprofit institutions, signaling a preference for sustaining established programs and civic infrastructure rather than many small projects.
A single grant of $1,030,125 to Friends of the Children of Portland stands out in the Marcia H Randall Foundation’s recent record and points to a clear pattern: the foundation backs established Portland institutions with large, unrestricted support. Its giving also includes $500,000 for the Portland Art Museum, $250,000 for All Classical Public Media, and $250,000 for The Library Foundation, all in Portland. Those awards sit alongside other sizable gifts to youth-serving, cultural, and civic organizations, showing a portfolio built around sustaining local infrastructure rather than funding many short-term projects. The foundation’s recent grants are concentrated in Oregon, with recipients ranging from youth mentoring and children’s services to arts, public media, libraries, health, and community programs. The grants list includes groups such as Casa for Children, Nehalem Bay Health Center, Randall Children’s Hospital Foundation, Youth Villages Oregon, and Youth Music Project. That mix suggests the foundation supports organizations that serve children and families, while also maintaining long-term commitments to cultural and public-serving institutions in the Portland area. The recurring support format reinforces a pattern of general operating or institutional support.
Youth mentoring is a clear priority. In 2025, the foundation gave $1,030,125 to Friends of the Children of Portland for support, its largest listed award. The same year it also gave $50,000 to Youth Villages Oregon and $7,500 to New Avenues for Youth, showing continued investment in youth-serving organizations. Cultural institutions are another major thread. The Portland Art Museum received $500,000 in 2025, while the Oregon Symphony received $25,000 in 2023 and the Portland Rose Festival Foundation received $55,000 in 2023. Public media and reading access also appear in the portfolio: All Classical Public Media received $250,000 in 2025, and Smart Reading received $10,000 in 2025. Health and family support show up as well. The foundation gave $100,000 to Nehalem Bay Health Center, $50,000 to Randall Children’s Hospital Foundation, and $10,000 to Clackamas Volunteers in Medicine.
Typical grants are clustered at $5,000, with a median of $5,000 and a 75th percentile of $25,000. That pattern sits alongside a small number of much larger institutional awards, including seven-figure and six-figure support gifts. The foundation’s recent record shows repeated funding in both 2023 and 2025, suggesting ongoing relationships rather than one-time awards. It is a private foundation, not a funder of individuals, and it does not make program-related investments. The recent grants are listed as support, which points to general operating or institutional backing rather than tightly restricted project grants.
