About Manes Peace Prize Foundation
The Manes Peace Prize Foundation pairs two distinct modes of giving: an annual $50,000 American Peace Prize for peacebuilding and a $1,000 Fine Arts Award for Nassau County high school students. Alongside those programs, its recent grant history shows flexible support for local Long Island institutions, often described as assistance to an organization’s mission rather than project-specific funding. Recent awards include repeated support for Westhampton Synagogue, a $200,000 grant in 2025 and a $100,000 grant in 2023, plus a $98,000 grant in 2025. The foundation also gave $150,000 in 2023 to Mid Island Y Jcc and $125,500 in 2025 to Nassau County Museum of Art, indicating sustained support for Jewish communal life and cultural institutions in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Smaller awards extend to theaters, wildlife, and community organizations, while the active prize programs show that peace and youth arts are part of the foundation’s formal structure. The overall pattern is local, mission-general, and institution-focused, with grantmaking centered on Long Island and a small set of recurring recipients.
What Manes Peace Prize Foundation Funds
Within Jewish communal life, the foundation has funded Westhampton Synagogue multiple times, including $200,000 in 2025 and $100,000 in 2023, both to assist the organization in its mission. It also supported Mid Island Y Jcc with $150,000 in 2023, showing attention to Jewish community infrastructure beyond a single congregation. On the arts side, the foundation gave $125,500 in 2025 to Nassau County Museum of Art and $75,000 in 2023 to Spirit of Huntington Art Center, both for general mission support. Theater has also appeared in the mix: Studio Theatre of Long Island received $15,000 in 2025 and $10,000 in 2023. The active award programs broaden the picture. The Manes American Peace Prize is a $50,000 annual award for work promoting peace and goodwill, and the Manes Fine Arts Award provides $1,000 awards to Nassau County high school art students.
How Manes Peace Prize Foundation Gives
Typical grants are sizable, with a p25 of $6,875, a median of $17,500, and a p75 of $98,500. That distribution reflects a mix of smaller community grants and larger institutional awards. The same recipients appear across multiple years, including Westhampton Synagogue, Studio Theatre of Long Island, Spirit of Huntington Art Center, and Nassau County Museum of Art, which points to recurring support rather than one-time transactions. The foundation does not fund individuals directly, and it does not make program-related investments. Its active programs include an annual prize and a student arts award, alongside general grantmaking.
