The Linde Family Foundation makes a small number of large, strategic gifts focused primarily in the Boston area, funding health care and biomedical research, cultural institutions and music education, and higher-education access and innovation. They favor institutional investments that build programs, centers, or endowments (rather than many small operational grants), often supporting both capital/center-level initiatives and program expansion. Repeated large grants to medical centers, major arts institutions, and a university indicate a preference for established institutions with capacity to scale impact locally and regionally.
A defining feature of the Linde Family Foundation C/o Eric Riak - Cibc Private Wealth Mgmt is its concentration of large gifts to Boston institutions that build lasting capacity: a $2.83 million grant to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston supported the Community Arts Initiative, Table of Voices, and STEAM Team, while $2.7 million to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center backed the Linde Family Primary Care Leadership Institute and expanding hypertension care. The foundation’s pattern is not broad, small-scale grantmaking; it tends to make institutional investments that strengthen programs, centers, and infrastructure. That approach appears across health care, biomedical research, arts and music education, and access to higher education and prison education. The 2025 record also includes $2 million to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for the Center for Therapeutic Discovery and $1.2 million to the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra for general operations, intensive community program faculty salaries, and creating the BYSO Youth Center for Music. In education-related giving, Wesleyan University received $1.025 million for an undergraduate financial aid endowment fund, facilities fund, and center for prison education. Across these awards, the foundation favors established organizations with the scale to deliver program expansion and long-term impact.
In community arts and museum programming, the foundation gave $2.83 million to Museum of Fine Arts Boston for the Community Arts Initiative, Table of Voices, and STEAM Team, and $500,000 to Now and There for The Boston Public Art Triennial 2025. In music education, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra Inc received $1.2 million for general operations, intensive community program faculty salaries, and creating the BYSO Youth Center for Music. Their education support also includes $175,000 to Massachusetts Institute of Technology for MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering, and Science (MITES). In reproductive health, they awarded $250,000 to National Abortion Federation Hotline Fund for the Dr. Tiller Patient Assistance Fund and $200,000 to Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc-c3 for The Resolute Campaign: The Fight for Abortion Equity.
