The Slifka Foundation concentrates sizable, unrestricted gifts to cultural institutions, faith-based civic organizations, and arts education programs—primarily in New York City. Their portfolio shows a strong interest in supporting museums and performing arts (both major institutions and community arts education), Jewish communal infrastructure, and interfaith civic initiatives, with occasional health and neighborhood services grants.
Joseph & Sylvia Slifka Foundation Inc. stands out for sustained unrestricted support to New York cultural and civic institutions, alongside Jewish communal and interfaith organizations. In 2023, it gave $600,000 in unrestricted charitable purposes to The Interfaith Center of New York, one of the largest recent grants in the dataset. The same year, it awarded $500,000 each to New York City Ballet Inc. and Jewish Communal Fund, signaling a pattern of sizable institutional gifts rather than small project-only awards. More recent grants continue that profile: Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation received $200,000 in 2025 for general support, and Publicolor Inc. received $300,000 in 2023 and additional support in 2024 and 2025. The foundation also backed Scan-harbor Inc., The Byrd Hoffman Water Mill Fdn, and Retreat Inc., showing attention to neighborhood-serving groups and arts-related institutions. Across the recent grants list, the foundation’s funding reads as concentrated, repeat-oriented, and heavily centered on New York City organizations, with occasional support reaching beyond the city to a few specialized nonprofits.

The foundation gave $500,000 to New York City Ballet Inc. in 2023 for unrestricted charitable purposes, then followed with $50,000 in 2025 for general support. It also gave Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation $200,000 in 2025 and $150,000 in 2024, both for general support. Programmatic arts education appears as well: Publicolor Inc. received $300,000 in 2023, $100,000 in 2024, and $125,000 in 2025. Beyond the arts, the foundation supported Jewish communal and interfaith work through Jewish Communal Fund and Stephen Wise Free Synagogue, and backed Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind with grants in both 2024 and 2025. It also funded The New York Public Library’s cold storage initiative in 2025, indicating interest in preservation and collections infrastructure.
