The John E Morgan Foundation concentrates sizable, targeted gifts in Pennsylvania, particularly supporting Tamaqua and surrounding counties. Its giving prioritizes local community infrastructure (recreation, public safety, facilities), access to healthcare, hunger relief, and scholarships/educational programs at public colleges and local school districts. Grants are often capital- or program-focused and several recipients receive repeat multi-grant support, indicating long-term partnerships with community institutions.
John E Morgan Foundation Inc makes some of its clearest commitments through repeated support for Tamaqua-area public institutions and community facilities. In the recent record, the foundation backed the Borough of Tamaqua for public recreation facilities in multiple years, supported Tamaqua Area Community Partnership for police-related construction, and gave to Good Shepard for facilities construction. Those grants sit alongside larger awards for food security, healthcare access, and education, showing a pattern that combines local infrastructure with direct support for community services. The foundation also funds regional education pipelines. Recent grants include support for Tamaqua Area School District for scholarships, equipment, and educational programs, as well as substantial gifts to public university-related foundations in Pennsylvania for educational programs and scholarships. Healthcare appears as another continuing priority, with repeated support for Carbon Schuylkill Comm Hosp Inc to enhance access to healthcare. The grant record suggests a funder that uses sizable, targeted awards to strengthen institutions serving the same Pennsylvania communities over time.
Community infrastructure is a recurring theme. John E Morgan Foundation Inc gave $630,000 to Tamaqua Area Community Partnership in 2024 and $420,000 in 2023 for construction of police and related facilities. It also awarded $400,000 in 2025 to Good Shepard for facilities construction and $90,000 in 2024 to Rush Township for police and fire equipment. Education is another major area. The foundation gave $682,141 to Tamaqua Area School District in 2023 and $228,000 in 2025 for scholarships, equipment, and educational programs. It also supported The Pennsylvania State University Philanthropic Fund with $600,000 in 2025 and $530,000 in 2024 for educational programs. Food assistance appears in the record as well, including $1,350,000 to Helping Harvest in 2025 for general operations and $500,000 to Greater Berks Food Bank in 2023 for general operation.
Typical grants cluster at a $6,000 p25 and median, with a $35,000 p75, while the recent record also includes several much larger six- and seven-figure awards. The 2025 filing year is on file, and the broader pattern shows repeated support to the same recipients across multiple years, especially in Tamaqua-area institutions and regional education and health organizations. The foundation funds individuals and does not make program-related investments. The grants shown are institutional and mostly operating-, scholarship-, equipment-, or facilities-oriented rather than open application awards.
