The Joe Plumeri Foundation concentrates its philanthropy almost exclusively on higher education and student opportunity, directing large gifts to colleges, professional schools, and scholarship programs. It favors support for access and advancement programs that help promising students—particularly from underrepresented or low-income backgrounds—enter and succeed in professional fields like law and medicine. The foundation gives few but sizable grants, often repeated to the same institutions.
Concentrated, large-dollar giving with a small number of multi-grant relationships; repeat funding to select higher-education institutions and scholarship organizations rather than many small grants.
Joe Plumeri Foundation Inc. makes unusually large education gifts, with several seven-figure awards recurring to the same institutions over multiple years. The clearest pattern is support for student access and advancement into professional fields: Sponsors for Educational Opportunity received $1,270,000 in 2024, $1,250,000 in 2025, $1,250,000 in 2023, and additional support of $1,000,000 in 2026 and $250,000 in 2026. That repeated funding points to a long-running relationship rather than one-off project support. The foundation also backs colleges and professional schools with sizable general support. William and Mary College received $1,250,000 in 2026, $200,000 in 2026, and $200,000 in 2025, while New York Law School received $500,000 in both 2023 and 2025. Icahn School of Medicine appears as another repeated recipient, with awards of $345,789 in 2024, $300,000 in 2025, and $300,000 in 2026. Together, these grants show a funder focused on education infrastructure, scholarships, and institutional capacity for student-serving organizations.
College access and scholarship support is central to the foundation’s giving. Sponsors for Educational Opportunity received multiple grants, including $1,270,000 in 2024 and $1,250,000 in 2025, both listed as general support. For professional education, New York Law School received $500,000 in 2023 and again in 2025, also as general support. Medical education is another clear area. Icahn School of Medicine received $345,789 in 2024, followed by $300,000 grants in 2025 and 2026. The foundation also funds broader campus and institutional support: William and Mary College received $1,250,000 in 2026 and $200,000 in both 2025 and 2026. This pattern suggests a preference for large, flexible support to education-focused institutions rather than restricted project grants.
