The Joe and Jessie Crump Fund concentrates large, general-purpose gifts to a small number of institutions, with a strong emphasis on faith-based higher education, biomedical research, and children's health and education institutions. Grants are often multi-year and sizable, supporting regional cultural and science organizations (museums, zoos) as well as research foundations. The foundation appears regionally focused on Texas-area beneficiaries despite being based in Chicago, and favors repeat funding relationships.
Joe and Jessie Crump Fund Xxxxx3000 gives large, general-purpose grants to a small group of institutions, with repeated support for the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, which received $1,660,000 in both 2023 and 2024 and an additional $835,000 in 2024. That pattern points to a funder comfortable with multi-year commitments rather than one-off awards. The fund also supports biomedical research and children’s health organizations, including Kelsey Research Foundation in Houston, Mary Crowley Medical Research Center in Dallas, and Childrens Medical Center Foundation in Dallas. Its portfolio extends beyond health and education into regional cultural institutions such as Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and Fort Worth Zoological Association Inc. The recent grant list shows the same institutions returning over multiple years, often at six- and seven-figure levels, which suggests sustained relationships rather than broad dissemination across many recipients. Texas organizations account for most of the activity, even though the foundation itself is in Chicago. The combination of faith-based higher education, pediatric services, research, and regional museums gives the fund a defined institutional profile.
A core thread in the grant record is Episcopal and theological higher education. Joe and Jessie Crump Fund Xxxxx3000 gave $1,660,000 to Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in 2023 and the same amount again in 2024, plus another $835,000 in 2024, all for general support. Biomedical research is another major area: Kelsey Research Foundation in Houston received $325,250 in 2024, $325,000 in 2025, $300,000 in 2024, and $300,000 in 2023. In children’s health, W I Cook Foundation Inc Cook Children's Rehabilitation in Fort Worth received $350,000 in 2024 and $150,000 in 2025. The fund also backed Mary Crowley Medical Research Center in Dallas with $150,000 in 2023, $150,000 in 2024, and $100,000 in 2025, showing repeated support within the medical research track.
Typical grants cluster at a high level: p25 is $35,000, median grant size is $100,000, and p75 is $150,000. The recent record is shaped by repeated awards to the same institutions across 2023, 2024, and 2025, which points to recurring relationships rather than isolated gifts. The fund is classified as a pure DAF provider and also makes program-related investments. Grants in the sample are listed as general support, indicating a preference for flexible funding.
