The Harold & Margaret Taylor Foundation concentrates its giving locally in Oregon, prioritizing direct-service animal welfare and education. A majority of funding goes to the Oregon Humane Society for care and placement of animals, while the remainder supports specialized K–12 schooling for children with dyslexia and occasional higher-education support at the University of Oregon. Grants are modest in number but meaningful in size and often repeat to the same organizations, indicating a preference for sustained relationships with a few local grantees.
The Harold & Margaret Taylor Foundation’s recent giving is anchored by repeated support for the Oregon Humane Society, including a $51,500 grant in 2025 after $50,000 grants in both 2023 and 2024 for care and placement of stray animals. That same repeat pattern shows up in its other main local relationships: Park Academy in Lake Oswego received $50,000 in 2025 and $35,000 in 2023 for education for children with dyslexia, while the University of Oregon Foundation has also appeared multiple times for higher-education and athletic support. The foundation’s work is concentrated in Oregon and reaches a small set of nearby grantees, with grants often returning to the same organizations across multiple years. Alongside animal welfare and specialized schooling, the grant list includes support for school athletics, scholarship funds, trades education, and student nutrition. The picture that emerges is a local funder with a limited number of grants, a strong preference for recurring relationships, and a mix of direct-service and education-oriented support. Its recent awards also show occasional grants outside those core themes, but the main pattern remains centered on Oregon-based animal care and school support.
Animal welfare is the clearest thread in the foundation’s giving. In 2025, it gave $51,500 to Oregon Humane Society in Portland for care and placement of stray animals, following $50,000 grants for the same purpose in 2023 and 2024. Education is the other major area, especially for students with dyslexia: Park Academy in Lake Oswego received $50,000 in 2025 and $35,000 in 2023 for support of the school. The foundation also backs public-school programming, including $10,000 to Dufur School in 2025 and another $10,000 in 2023 to support a new program teaching children trades. Student support appears in several forms, including $15,000 to Hopscotch Foundation in Portland to provide healthy, nutritious snacks to students in low-income communities.
Typical grant size is small-to-midrange: the 25th percentile is $1,250, and both the median and 75th percentile are $10,000. That pattern reflects a mix of $10,000 awards with a smaller number of larger grants. The foundation also shows clear repeat funding across years, including the Oregon Humane Society, Park Academy, University of Oregon Foundation, and several school-based grantees. It funds individuals as well as organizations, but the recent grants list is dominated by institutional support. The grant record suggests relationship-based, recurring support rather than one-time awards.

Concentrated giving to a small number of local grantees with repeat, mid-size grants (one dominant beneficiary receives the majority of funding). Emphasis on direct-service organizations rather than broad policy or national initiatives.
Notable grantees: Oregon Humane Society, Park Academy, University of Oregon Foundation
Giving is highly local: 94% of grants go to recipients in Oregon, and Oregon is the top state by grant count. Portland appears repeatedly through Oregon Humane Society, Hopscotch Foundation, Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, and Pil Hall of Fame. Other Oregon recipients include Lake Oswego, Eugene, Corvallis, Milwaukie, Maupin, Dufur, Estacada, Imbler, and Turner. Outside the United States, none of the recent grants listed are to non-U.S. recipients.
The strongest patterns in the recent grants are animal welfare and education. Oregon Humane Society received repeated support for care and placement of stray animals, while Park Academy received multiple grants for dyslexia-focused schooling. The list also includes public schools, universities, and student support groups.
Yes. Several recipients appear across multiple years, including Oregon Humane Society in 2023, 2024, and 2025; Park Academy in 2023 and 2025; and University of Oregon Foundation in 2023, 2024, and 2025. That points to sustained relationships rather than one-off awards.
The foundation’s grant-size profile centers on $10,000 awards. The 25th percentile is $1,250, the median is $10,000, and the 75th percentile is also $10,000, so most grants cluster around that level with a few smaller or larger outliers.
Its giving is concentrated in Oregon: 94% of grants go to recipients in the state, and Oregon is the top state by grant count. Portland is a recurring recipient city, along with Lake Oswego, Eugene, Corvallis, and several smaller Oregon communities.
Education support includes specialized K–12 schooling for children with dyslexia, university support, school athletics, scholarships, trades education, and student nutrition. Examples in the recent grants include Park Academy, University of Oregon Foundation, Dufur School, and Hopscotch Foundation.
