GreenLatinos centers Latino/a/e environmental, conservation, and climate justice work, and its recent grants show that mission in practice through urban greening, urban forestry, and general operating support for frontline organizations. One of the clearest signals is the 2025 Urban Greening initiative: $300,000 each to Southeast Environmental Task Force, Pilsen Environmental Rights And Reform Organization, Academy For Global Citizenship, and The Semilla Project, plus $250,000 to Southwest Organizing Project and $200,000 to The Center for Social Sustainable Systems. Those awards place Latino/a/e communities and neighborhood-scale greening at the center of the funder’s work. The foundation also backs smaller organizations with core support. In 2025, Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project received $120,000 for general operating support, while National Caucus of Environmental Legislators, Endangered Species Coalition, and other groups received $20,000 operating grants. The mix of large project grants and smaller unrestricted awards suggests a funder that uses both program-specific investments and organizational support to advance environmental justice goals. Its stated programs also include urban tree planting, tree maintenance, canopy assessment, community engagement, and workforce development in low-income and disadvantaged communities.

What Greenlatinos Funds

Urban greening is the clearest throughline in GreenLatinos’ recent grantmaking. The foundation awarded $150,020 to LA Compost, $150,000 to San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corp, and $100,000 to Proyecto Pastoral for Urban Greening work, all in Los Angeles-area communities. In Chicago and Albuquerque, it made similarly structured awards to neighborhood-based groups working on greenspace revitalization and environmental justice. Urban forestry is another recurring theme. GreenLatinos gave $57,439 to the City of Sacramento to complete a forestry analysis and plant 450 trees, and $44,250 to the City of Bellflower to plant and maintain 500 trees. Smaller forestry grants also went to the Village of Skokie for 450 new trees and to the City of Hayward for an urban forest inventory and 400 trees. General operating support remains part of the portfolio as well, including $120,000 to Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project and $20,000 each to several advocacy and conservation organizations.
