The Cole-Crone Family Foundation concentrates its giving exclusively on healthcare, making multi-year, sizable gifts to regional hospital systems and their fundraising arms. Grants are focused on supporting hospitals and health service providers in the Chicago/North Shore area, indicating a preference for sustaining clinical care, hospital programs, and related health services. The foundation tends to fund a small number of institutional grantees repeatedly rather than many one-off recipients.
Concentrated giving: a small number of relatively large grants, multiple repeat awards to the same hospital foundations and regional health systems, geographically focused on the Chicago/North Shore region.
Cole-crone Family Foundation Inc C/o Mr Marvin Crone gives almost entirely to healthcare institutions, with repeated unrestricted support for hospital systems and related health-service organizations. The largest recent grant listed is $200,000 to North Shore University Health System in Evanston, Illinois, followed by $180,000 to Endeavor Health in the same city. That pattern points to a funder that backs regional clinical care providers rather than a broad mix of charities. The foundation’s recent record shows steady support for major medical centers in Illinois and beyond, including Northwestern Memorial Foundation in Chicago and Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation in Miami Beach. Grants are commonly described as unrestricted, which suggests flexibility for recipients’ operating needs rather than a narrow project-only approach. Its giving also reaches health-adjacent institutions tied to training, research, and specialized medical services, such as Rush Endowed Scholarship Fund, American Technion Society, and Iseps Global Opthalmology Foundation. Across the recent grants list, the foundation appears to favor larger institutional awards over many small grants, with repeated support to the same organizations across multiple years.
Healthcare is the clear focus. The foundation gave $100,000 to Northwestern Memorial Foundation in Chicago in both 2024 and 2025, and another $100,000 in 2023, all unrestricted. Hospital-system support also extends outside Illinois. Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation in Miami Beach received $150,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025, indicating continued backing for a single health system over time. In specialized medical work, the foundation granted $50,000 to Doctors Without Borders USA in 2023, 2024, and 2025. It also supported Iseps Global Opthalmology Foundation in Vernon Hills, Illinois with $50,000 grants in 2023, 2024, and 2025. The grant list includes food-bank support as well, with Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva, Illinois receiving $50,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Typical grants cluster around a $20,000 median, with a $10,000 p25 and $40,000 p75. The recent list shows a strong repeat-giving pattern: several recipients appear across multiple years, including hospital foundations and medical nonprofits. Grants are frequently unrestricted, and the foundation is structured as a family foundation rather than an operating charity or DAF. The pattern suggests ongoing institutional support rather than one-time project funding.
