The Clayton A Struve Family Foundation appears focused on supporting youth development through direct investment in youth-serving programs. Its single reported grant was a substantial unrestricted award to Camp Mishawaka to support youth services, indicating a priority on experiential or camp-based opportunities for children and adolescents. The foundation gives in a concentrated way rather than broadly across sectors or geographies.
Clayton a Struve Family Foundation’s giving is anchored by youth-serving camp support, with Camp Mishawaka receiving the largest reported awards in the dataset, including $100,000 in 2023 and $50,000 in 2024 and 2025. That pattern points to a foundation that returns to the same recipient over multiple years and uses sizeable grants to support a defined youth experience rather than spreading support broadly across many sectors. The foundation also gives beyond camp programming. In the recent-grants list, it made repeated awards to the Greater Chicago Food Depository for hunger relief in Cook County and to the Rheumatology Research Foundation for medical research. Additional support reached organizations working with children’s health, college tuition assistance for caddies, wildlife habitat conservation, and services for people with developmental disabilities. The picture is of a regional family foundation with a focused grantmaking style: a few recurring recipients, meaningful check sizes, and a mix of youth development, human services, research, and conservation. Several recipients appear more than once across 2023 to 2025, showing continuity in giving rather than isolated one-time awards.
Youth development sits at the center of the foundation’s recent grantmaking. Camp Mishawaka received $100,000 in 2023 for youth services, followed by $50,000 in both 2024 and 2025 for youth services and a scholarship fund. That sequence shows sustained support for camp-based programming. Human services in Chicago and Cook County are another clear theme. The Greater Chicago Food Depository received $50,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025, each time for fighting hunger in Cook County. United Way of Metro Chicago also received $40,000 in 2025 for regional community-building work. The foundation also backs health and research causes. Rheumatology Research Foundation received $40,000 in 2023 and $50,000 in both 2024 and 2025 to help find a cure for rheumatology. St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital received $20,000 in 2023 and 2025 for research and treatment for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Grant sizes cluster in the middle of the range, with a p25 of $5,000, a median of $15,000, and a p75 of $20,000. The recent list also shows larger repeat awards at $30,000, $35,000, $40,000, $50,000, and $100,000, indicating that the foundation can scale up for selected recipients. The grant record is recurring rather than one-off: multiple organizations appear in more than one year from 2023 through 2025. It is a family foundation, and it also funds individuals. No application process is stated in the data.
