Belvedere Charitable Foundation concentrates its giving in large, unrestricted grants to a small number of organizations, with a clear emphasis on biodiversity and conservation work as well as support for higher education and cultural/heritage institutions. Its grants are often international in scope (national parks, wildlife trusts, marine research) while also backing elite academic institutions and cultural philanthropy based in the U.S. and U.K. The foundation favors capacity-building, general operating support rather than project-restricted funding.
Belvedere Charitable Foundation’s largest recent grant went to Trustees of Columbia University of New York for $1,000,654 in 2025, and the rest of its recent giving shows a similar pattern of sizable, unrestricted support to a small set of institutions. The foundation backs conservation organizations, marine and island science groups, universities, and cultural or heritage bodies. Its recent grants include $623,429 each to African Parks and Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust in 2024, both marked as unrestricted grants to further the donee’s exempt purpose. That same approach appears across the portfolio: grants are stated as unrestricted, with funding directed to exempt-purpose support rather than narrowly defined project lines. The foundation’s recipients include major research and advocacy organizations as well as institutions with long-established public missions, such as Cambridge in America, Eton College, and The Clocktower Foundation. Across the list, the pattern is not broad scattershot giving but concentrated support to organizations working in biodiversity, conservation, higher education, and heritage-related fields.
In higher education, Belvedere Charitable Foundation gave $1,000,654 to Trustees of Columbia University of New York and $250,000 to Cambridge in America, both as unrestricted grants for exempt-purpose support. In marine and coastal work, it supported Cape Eleuthera Foundation with $503,598 and Cook Inletkeeper with $119,488, alongside further grants to Perry Institute for Marine Science. Conservation is another core area: African Parks received $623,429, Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust received $623,429, and The Nature Conservancy New Mexico received $50,285. The foundation also backed policy and research organizations tied to environmental protection, including Global Fishing Watch and Conservation Strategy Fund. Cultural and heritage philanthropy appears in grants such as $255,513 to The Clocktower Foundation and $51,582 to The Prince's Trust.
Belvedere Charitable Foundation’s typical grant size is $11,390 at the 25th percentile, $50,000 at the median, and $122,653 at the 75th percentile, with a recent outlier of $1,000,654. The foundation gives unrestricted grants, usually stated as support to further the donee’s exempt purpose. Several recipients appear more than once across the recent list, including Cambridge in America, Eton College, Perry Institute for Marine Science, and The Nature Conservancy. The pattern suggests repeat support to a relatively small set of organizations rather than one-off awards across many grantees.
