About Ohio Association of Foodbanks
Ohio Association of Foodbanks Inc centers its grantmaking on Ohio’s statewide hunger-relief network, with repeated support for the state’s foodbanks, navigator services, and national service placements. Its largest recent awards go to Mid-ohio Foodbank and Greater Cleveland Food Bank Inc, both receiving multimillion-dollar grants to provide assistance to Ohioans in need. The pattern is not limited to food distribution alone: the foundation also funds health coverage outreach, including navigator services for organizations in Columbus and Toledo, and supports AmeriCorps-based capacity building across hunger- and poverty-relief organizations in Ohio. The foundation’s giving aligns with a public-service model rather than individual assistance, and it channels most of its resources through the same Ohio institutions year after year. Recent grants also show support for regional foodbanks in Cincinnati, Akron, Dayton, Youngstown, Fairfield, and other Ohio communities, indicating a network approach that covers much of the state. The consistent purpose language across awards points to a practical focus on direct assistance, operational support, and service delivery for low-income households and food-insecure individuals.
What Ohio Association of Foodbanks Funds
The foundation’s clearest theme is food access through Ohio’s foodbank system. It gave $7,242,430 to Freestore Foodbank Inc in Cincinnati and $6,912,670 to Akron-canton Regional Foodbank in Akron, both for providing assistance to Ohioans in need. It also backed Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank with $4,045,716 and The Foodbank Inc in Dayton with $3,687,027 for the same purpose. Beyond emergency food support, the foundation funds health-related navigation work: Charitable Healthcare Network in Columbus received $423,639 for navigator services to Ohioans in need, while Universal Healthcare Action Network of Ohio received $317,013 for the same general purpose. The foundation also supports service infrastructure. Grants to Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley in Youngstown and West Ohio Food Bank in Lima reflect a statewide pattern of strengthening local delivery systems.
How Ohio Association of Foodbanks Gives
Typical awards are large: the p25 grant size is $201,462, the median is $1,658,475, and the p75 is $3,309,988. That distribution shows a mix of major operating support and smaller specialized grants, especially for navigator services. The recent grant list also shows repeat recipients across 2024 and 2025, including Mid-ohio Foodbank, Greater Cleveland Food Bank Inc, Freestore Foodbank Inc, and Toledo-lucas County Carenet, which points to recurring support rather than one-off awards. The foundation appears to operate through a focused institutional structure tied to Ohio food and health coverage programs, and it does accept unsolicited applications for some active programs such as health care coverage outreach, national service programs, and AmeriCorps VISTA placements.
