To strengthen and sustain the Jewish community of Greater Pittsburgh and support Jewish life locally, in Israel and overseas through fundraising, grants, community services, education and security programs.
Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh’s recent giving is anchored by a very large recurring transfer to The Jewish Federations of North America, which received $10,685,861 in 2025 after similar support in 2023 and 2024. That pattern signals a federation that combines local community investment with broader Jewish communal funding. The foundation’s portfolio also shows sustained support for institutions in Pittsburgh and for organizations tied to Jewish life, education, aging services, and community security. Among its largest local recipients are the Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family and Community Service, each appearing repeatedly across multiple years, along with education-focused grantees such as Yeshiva Schools and Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh. Its giving includes both major institutional support and more targeted program support, reflecting a role as a central funder for Jewish communal infrastructure. The organization describes its work as strengthening and sustaining the Jewish community of Greater Pittsburgh while supporting Jewish life locally, in Israel, and overseas through fundraising, grants, community services, education, and security programs.
Jewish education is a consistent theme in the grant list. In 2024, the foundation gave $694,930 to Yeshiva Schools for Jewish education, and in 2025 it gave $685,782 to Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh for the same purpose. Higher education is also present through a 2024 grant of $496,020 to Hillel Jewish University Center for Jewish education. Community care is another major strand: Jewish Family and Community Service received $934,462 in 2025 for social health and welfare, following support of $904,847 in 2024 and $884,432 in 2023. Aging services appear through the Jewish Association on Aging, which received $958,966 in 2023 and $705,238 in 2024. The foundation also supports Jewish communal life and religious institutions, including a 2024 grant of $1,571,440 to T of L Inc for support of a religious organization.
Typical grants cluster around a mid-five-figure level: the 25th percentile is $10,000, the median is $17,178, and the 75th percentile is $42,194. The recent grant list shows a dual pattern of large institutional awards and smaller program grants, especially across education, social services, and Jewish communal infrastructure. Several recipients appear in multiple years, including the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Family and Community Service, Jewish Association on Aging, Yeshiva Schools, and Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh, indicating recurring support rather than one-time awards. The organization is a Jewish federation with a foundation arm, and its program structure includes direct grants, community priorities funding, and named initiatives such as youth convention subsidies and One Happy Camper grants. Some programs accept unsolicited requests, while others do not.
