About Great Lakes Community Action Partnership
Great Lakes Community Action Partnership’s most distinctive recent pattern is its large, repeated support for childcare services in Lucas County, including a $1,528,975 grant in 2024 and a $1,329,917 grant in 2025 after a $878,324 grant in 2023. That sequence shows a funder comfortable with multiyear commitments rather than isolated awards. The foundation also uses grantmaking to strengthen community action infrastructure across the Great Lakes region through its RCAP network funding, with substantial awards to organizations in West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan. Beyond that regional network work, the foundation supports adult and youth services, indicating a portfolio that combines direct service delivery with systems-level partnerships. Its stated purpose is to help individuals, families, and communities thrive, and the grant record reflects that through a mix of large-scale childcare support, rural infrastructure assistance, and community action network investments. Recent recipients include Lucas County in Toledo, Ohio, for childcare services, along with Indiana Community Action Association Inc in Indianapolis for Great Lakes RCAP network funding. The pattern suggests a funder oriented toward practical supports that connect families to services while also helping local and regional partners build capacity.
What Great Lakes Community Action Partnership Funds
Childcare services are a major part of the foundation’s recent giving. Lucas County in Toledo received $1,329,917 in 2025 for childcare services, following a $1,528,975 grant in 2024 and a $878,324 grant in 2023. That pattern points to sustained support for early childhood-related services rather than one-off funding. The RCAP portfolio is another clear lane. Great Lakes Community Action Partnership gave $515,011 in 2025 to Indiana Community Action Association Inc in Indianapolis for Great Lakes RCAP network funding, after similar awards to Community Action Kentucky Inc in Frankfort and West Virginia Community Action Partnerships Inc in Charleston. These grants align with the active Rural Community Assistance Program, which focuses on rural infrastructure, water and wastewater systems, and community development. The foundation also funds adult and youth services. Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo Inc received $101,840 in 2024 and $67,056 in 2025, while Harmony House Homeless Services Inc in Mansfield received $155,673 in 2024. Smaller awards in the same area reached Fremont City Board of Education and Sandusky County Health Department.
