To create a culture of generosity that transforms the world by raising, managing, and distributing funds that serve the needs of all people and communities.
United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia Inc channels much of its recent grantmaking into United Methodist ministry support in West Virginia, with large recurring awards to West Virginia Wesleyan College, Pension Funds Inc, and Burlington United Methodist Family Services Inc. Those grants show a pattern that mixes church-centered operating support, clergy retirement funding, and community-serving ministry work. The foundation also supports recovery ministry and scholarship activity, including awards to the United Methodist Committee on Relief and West Virginia University. Its grant history points to a funder that works across several institutional needs within the United Methodist ecosystem rather than relying on a single program type. Recipients include local churches, conference entities, family-services ministries, and educational institutions tied to the denomination. Some awards are repeated across years, which suggests sustained relationships with certain organizations rather than isolated transactions. The foundation’s stated mission is to create a culture of generosity by raising, managing, and distributing funds that serve the needs of all people and communities, and its recent grants reflect that mandate in practice through church support, pension funding, and education-related giving.
United Methodist ministry is the clearest theme in the recent grants. The foundation gave $76,425 to Duffey Memorial Methodist Church in Moorefield, WV for United Methodist Ministry, and it also funded Christ United Methodist Church Weirton for the same purpose. Clergy and retirement support is another recurring area. Pension Funds Inc in Charleston, WV received $98,102 in 2025 for Pension Funding, following similar awards in 2024 and 2023. Recovery ministry appears as a distinct line of support. The United Methodist Committee on Relief in Atlanta, GA received $43,941 in 2025, $41,813 in 2024, and $46,473 in 2023 for Recovery Ministry. Education also shows up through scholarship and seminary support. West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV received $37,000 for Scholarships, and Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC received $34,813 for United Methodist Ministry.
