    About Summit Foundation

The Summit Foundation directs almost all of its grantmaking to the Summit, New Jersey area, and its recent awards show a strong emphasis on community institutions that shape daily life there. Among the largest grants on file are $196,250 to the Summit Board of Education for various projects and $100,000 to Central Community Foundation for various projects, pointing to a mix of public, nonprofit, and school-based support. The foundation funds a broad local portfolio rather than a single issue area. Recent grants include support for speech and disability services, food security, health care, senior services, arts, parks, youth programs, and community infrastructure. Summit-area organizations appear often in the recent grants list, including Summit Speech School, The Connection for Women and Families, Sage Eldercare, Summit Area YMCA, and the City of Summit. Its scholarship work is also part of the overall picture. The foundation manages scholarship funds for local high school students and other eligible students pursuing postsecondary study, including vocational, technical, and specialized education. That scholarship activity sits alongside competitive community grants, giving the foundation both programmatic and educational roles within the same local geography.

    What Summit Foundation Funds

Community development is a central thread in The Summit Foundation’s giving. It awarded $90,000 to Summit Department of Community Programs for various projects and $53,514 to the City of Summit for various projects, showing support for municipal and community-facing work. Education and student opportunity are another clear area. The foundation gave $196,250 to Summit Board of Education for various projects and runs scholarship funding for local high school students pursuing college, vocational, technical, or specialized postsecondary education. Health, disability services, and family support also appear repeatedly. Recent grants include $90,000 to Summit Speech School for various projects, $67,404 to Trinitas Health Foundation for various projects, and $54,375 to The Connection for Women and Families for various projects. Food security is represented as well, with $50,000 to Community Foodbank of NJ for various projects.

    How Summit Foundation Gives

The Summit Foundation’s typical grant size sits at $10,000 at the 25th percentile, $13,800 at the median, and $25,000 at the 75th percentile. Recent awards range higher than that core band, with some larger community grants topping six figures. The grantmaking pattern is recurring rather than one-off: organizations such as Summit Speech School, Sage Eldercare, The Connection for Women and Families, Overlook Hospital Foundation, and the City of Summit appear in multiple years. The foundation uses competitive grant cycles and also manages scholarship funds. Unsolicited applications are accepted for its competitive grant programs, while scholarship funds are handled separately through the foundation’s managed scholarship structure.
