To create a tradition of charitable giving and enhance the quality of life of the people of Greenbrier, Monroe, and Pocahontas counties by accepting contributions, managing funds, and awarding grants and scholarships to students and organizations in our service area.
The Greater Greenbrier Valley’s recent giving is anchored by a $360,867 grant to the City of White Sulpher Springs, alongside a $225,000 award to Disability Opportunity Fund and an $89,000 grant to Carnegie Hall Foundation Inc. Those larger grants sit next to a broad mix of local support for schools, libraries, churches, food relief, and community organizations across the Greenbrier Valley. The foundation’s published focus areas include education and scholarships, health and wellness, arts and cultural enrichment, community development, food security, and environmental conservation, with active grant programs that also point to youth, women and girls, and emergency food access. Its structure centers on donor fund management, grantmaking, scholarship funding, and support for community projects that improve quality of life in the region. Recent awards also show support for institutions such as Seneca Trail Charitable Foundation, West Virginia University, and Old Stone Presbyterian Church, indicating a mix of institutional and place-based giving. The pattern suggests a funder that combines larger community investments with smaller local grants tied to immediate regional needs and ongoing civic life.
In arts and cultural enrichment, the foundation gave $89,000 to Carnegie Hall Foundation Inc and $24,850 to Old Stone Presbyterian Church, showing support for cultural institutions and community venues. Education and scholarship-related giving appears in awards to Greenbrier County Schools for $10,000 and to the Greenbrier County Public Library for $5,304, alongside active programs that fund arts education in Greenbrier County public schools. Food security is another clear area: the Greenbrier Valley Emergency Food Fund provides rapid-response grants of up to $2,000 for organizations facing urgent food needs. Community development also shows up through local projects such as the Williamsburg Community Fund Grant, which supports quality-of-life projects in the Greater Williamsburg area.
Typical grants cluster around a median of $10,000, with a lower quartile of $6,000 and an upper quartile of $24,850. The recent grant list mixes large awards with many mid-sized local grants, including several at or near $10,000. Giving appears recurrent rather than one-off: the foundation maintains multiple active grant programs, including unsolicited ones, and its awards are concentrated in local West Virginia recipients. Its structure reflects donor fund management and scholarship funding rather than individual giving or program-related investments.
