The Fine and Greenwald Foundation concentrates funding on progressive civic and social change: civil liberties/legal advocacy, reproductive rights and health care access, and environmental and climate advocacy, while also supporting local Miami community services and Indigenous-led education. They fund a mix of national advocacy organizations and place-based nonprofits, often making multiple grants to the same organizations over time. The foundation demonstrates an explicit interest in racial and gender justice, refugee and immigrant support, and affordable housing through targeted intermediaries and grassroots partners.
The Fine and Greenwald Foundation C/o Marsha Soffer gives at a scale of more than $13.4 million a year, with recent awards reaching $300,000. Its grantmaking is built around civil liberties and social justice, reproductive health and abortion access, environmental advocacy, and Miami-based community support. The foundation also backs Jewish, refugee, and immigrant-serving organizations, along with Indigenous-led education and affordable housing work. Several of its largest recent grants show that pattern clearly. In 2025, it gave $300,000 to ACLU Foundation and $300,000 to New Israel Fund, then supported Planned Parenthood with another $300,000 grant in Miami. The same year it also funded Miami Waterkeeper at $200,000 and the Union of Concerned Scientists at $100,000, alongside local and national advocacy groups. Over multiple years, the foundation returned to organizations such as Overtown Youth Center, Planned Parenthood, and ACLU Foundation, indicating repeated support rather than one-time awards. Its portfolio mixes national intermediaries with place-based nonprofits in Florida and beyond.
Civil liberties and legal advocacy are a major part of the portfolio. The foundation gave $300,000 in 2025 to ACLU Foundation, then added $100,000 to ACLU Foundation of Florida and $80,000 to Southern Poverty Law Center in the same year. Health access is another visible thread. Planned Parenthood received $300,000 in Miami in 2025, after earlier grants of $150,000 in 2024 and $150,000 in 2023; Planned Parenthood of South East and North Florida also received $100,000 in 2025 and $75,000 in 2024. Environmental work appears through both national and local groups. The foundation gave $200,000 to Environmental Defense Fund Incorporated and $200,000 to Miami Waterkeeper in 2025, then another $100,000 to Union of Concerned Scientists. Community and education grants include $275,000 to Overtown Youth Center in both 2024 and 2023, plus $70,000 to Care Elementary School in 2025.
Typical grants fall in a relatively tight band: the 25th percentile is $10,000, the median is $15,000, and the 75th percentile is $25,000. The recent grant list shows a different upper tier as well, with awards of $100,000 to $300,000 going to a smaller set of repeat partners and advocacy organizations. The foundation is a regular funder, not a DAF, and it does not fund individuals or make program-related investments. Recurring support is visible across multiple years for several grantees, including organizations that reappear with similar purposes over time.

Concentrated, repeat support: the foundation makes multiple grants to a relatively small set of national advocacy groups alongside strategic place-based investments. Grants skew toward mid-to-large amounts across policy/advocacy organizations and select local nonprofits, indicating sustained multi-year partnerships rather than one-off, highly restricted gifts.
Notable grantees: New Israel Fund, Planned Parenthood (national and Florida affiliate), ACLU Foundation (national and Florida), Environmental Defense Fund / Miami Waterkeeper, Overtown Youth Center
