A distinctive part of Omaha Community Foundation’s recent giving is its mix of community-interest funds and administered public programs, alongside direct grants to local nonprofits. The foundation’s active programs include Omaha Venture Group Grants, the LGBTQIA2S+ Equality Fund, the Futuro Latino Fund, Nonprofit Capacity Building, Omaha Neighborhood Grants, Fund for Omaha, Building Healthy Futures Fund, and the City of Omaha ARPA Community Grant Program. That structure points to a grantmaker that supports both broad community priorities and targeted efforts for specific neighborhoods and communities. Recent awards also show support for organizations working on capacity building, human services, civil rights and advocacy, arts and culture, religion, education, and health. African American Empowerment received $200,000 in 2023 and $158,525 in 2024 for community improvement and capacity building. Abide Network received $172,756 in 2025 and $108,575 in 2024 for human services. The foundation also funded ACLU Nebraska Foundation Inc. in multiple years, including $120,000 in 2023 and $40,600 in 2025, indicating ongoing support for civil rights and advocacy work. Across these examples, the funder appears to combine larger anchor grants with smaller community-based awards through a local, Omaha-centered portfolio.
Capacity building is one of the clearest themes in the recent grants. African American Empowerment received $200,000 in 2023 and $158,525 in 2024 for community improvement and capacity building, showing that the foundation supports organizational strength as well as program activity. The foundation also funds civil rights and advocacy. ACLU Nebraska Foundation Inc. received $120,000 in 2023, $30,050 in 2024, and $40,600 in 2025, all in the civil rights, social action, and advocacy category. In human services, Abide Network received $172,756 in 2025, $108,575 in 2024, and $47,225 in 2023. Arts and culture appears as well: African Culture Connection received $74,000 in 2024 for arts, culture, and humanities. Religion is another active area, with All Holy Spirit Greek Orthodo receiving $58,000 in 2024 and Ablaze Ministries Inc. receiving $30,000 in 2025.
Typical grant size sits at $23,750 at the 25th percentile, $37,525 at the median, and $82,644 at the 75th percentile. The recent grants list includes several repeat recipients across 2023, 2024, and 2025, which suggests ongoing relationships rather than one-off awards. The grantmaker operates through a mix of community funds, a giving circle, and administered programs, and several active programs accept unsolicited proposals. That combination points to a locally embedded foundation with multiple entry points for nonprofits.
