The Max L Gibson & Jacqueline Gibson Foundation focuses on local, community-strengthening investments in Terre Haute and Vigo County, prioritizing youth recreation, K–12 education support, and faith-based community services. Grants are directed to a small set of local organizations doing programmatic work and facilities support rather than broad national initiatives. The foundation appears interested in tangible community amenities—sports facilities, school support programs, and church-based outreach—that serve families and children in the immediate region.
Concentrated, local giving: few mid-sized grants focused on a small number of repeat and regional grantees (one organization received multiple awards), funding program and facility support rather than wide geographic diversification.
The Max L Gibson & Jacqueline Gibson Foundation’s recent giving is marked by repeated support for Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, which received multiple grants across 2023, 2024, and 2025. That pattern points to a funder that stays with local organizations over time rather than making isolated gifts. The foundation also backed Cross Lane Community Church with two separate general-support grants in 2025, alongside funding for community-serving institutions in Terre Haute and nearby Seelyville. Across the recent grants list, the foundation’s support is practical and place-based: youth recreation, school-related enrichment, health and hospice services, and church-led outreach. Several grants are framed as general support, which suggests a flexible approach to nonprofit needs rather than narrow project-only funding. The largest grant in the recent list was $63,000 to Vigo County Education Foundation in 2024, reinforcing the foundation’s interest in K–12 education support in Vigo County. Other recurring beneficiaries include hospice organizations, higher-education institutions, and local community groups that serve families in the immediate region.
In youth recreation, the foundation gave $55,000 and $45,000 in 2025, plus $30,157 in 2023, to Wabash Valley Family Sports Center for general support. That repeated funding aligns with a local sports-and-recreation priority in the Wabash Valley. For K–12 and education-related work, they granted $63,000 to Vigo County Education Foundation in 2024 and $10,000 to Eastside Christian Academy in 2025. The list also shows support for higher education and related institutions, including $20,000 and $15,000 grants to Indiana State Athletics in 2025 and $20,000 to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 2025. Community services are another thread: the foundation gave $26,000 to VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley in 2023 and $20,000 to Hospice of the Wabash Valley in 2025, indicating support for local care-related organizations.
Typical grant size is small to modest: the p25 is $500, the median is $500, and the p75 is $2,000. The recent grants list also includes larger outliers, with gifts such as $63,000, $55,000, and $45,000. The pattern is strongly recurring rather than one-off; several recipients appear in multiple years, including Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, Cross Lane Community Church, VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley, Indiana State Athletics, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, St Mary of the Woods College, and Wabash Valley Community Foundation. The foundation gives general support across many grants, and it does not fund individuals or make program-related investments.
