About International Lung Cancer Foundation
The largest recent grant went to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America: $287,500 in 2023 to support development of research and young medical professionals in thoracic oncology. That award reflects the International Lung Cancer Foundation’s core pattern of funding research, training, and programs tied to lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies. Across its recent awards, the foundation backs early-career development in thoracic oncology rather than individual patients, with grants aimed at building research capacity, clinical expertise, and professional pathways. The 2023 recipient list also shows repeated support for academic and cancer-center settings, including Yale University, Boston University, Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Inc, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The giving profile matches the organization’s stated focus on lung cancer research, thoracic malignancies, fellowship and training grants, translational oncology, epidemiology, and advocacy. Its active programs extend that emphasis through fellowship awards, young investigator support, career advancement grants, and translational thoracic oncology research grants. Taken together, the foundation funds work that moves from laboratory and clinical research to training and capacity building in thoracic oncology.
What International Lung Cancer Foundation Funds
A central theme is early-career development in thoracic oncology. In 2023, Yale University received $50,000 and Boston University received $50,000 for support of research and young medical professionals in thoracic oncology. The same purpose text also appears in awards to Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Inc, showing a consistent emphasis on professional development within academic and cancer-center environments. The foundation also supports translational research capacity. Its LCFA/IASLC Translational Thoracic Oncology Research Grants are designed to improve care and treatment for people with lung cancers, with attention to near-term patient impact, access to care, patient outcomes, and projects benefiting underrepresented populations. A third thread is fellowship and career-stage funding. Active programs include the IASLC Adi F. Gazdar Fellowship Grant, the IASLC Young Investigator Grant, and the IASLC Career Advancement Grant, each aimed at supporting researchers and clinicians at different stages of thoracic oncology careers.
