The David M Levy Family Foundation concentrates its giving on local Orthodox/Jewish communal institutions in/around Lakewood, NJ, prioritizing capital support for buildings used for worship and education. Grants are targeted and sizable, aimed at construction, renovation, and facility improvements rather than general operating programs. The foundation repeatedly funds a small set of community centers, synagogues, and education-related entities, indicating a place-based, infrastructure-focused philanthropic strategy.
A defining pattern of the David M Levy Family Foundation is its repeated support for synagogue and Jewish community facilities around Monmouth County, with grants that fund worship services, educational building improvements, and renovations. The largest recent grant in the data is $133,000 to the Sephardic Community Center in Brooklyn for educational building improvements and renovations, showing that the foundation also extends this facility-focused approach beyond its immediate area when the recipient fits its priorities. Across the recent grants list, the foundation backed Larchwood Synagogue in Oakhurst with $95,946 for worshipping services for the community, and it also funded DSN Community Center in Oakhurst for building improvements and renovations. Similar awards appear for Ohel Simcha Super Fund in Long Branch, Hillel Yeshiva in Ocean Township, and Synagogue of Deal in Deal, all tied to physical facilities or community service functions. The repeated wording in grant purposes points to a consistent strategy: support the spaces and institutions that house religious life, education, and communal services, rather than broad unrestricted philanthropy. The foundation’s grantmaking is concentrated enough that several recipients appear multiple times across years, often for the same type of capital or service support.
In facility-oriented religious giving, the foundation awarded $95,946 to Larchwood Synagogue in Oakhurst for assistance in providing worshipping services for the community, and $11,050 to Edmond J Safra Synagogue in Deal for the same general purpose. It also supported Chabad of the Shore in Long Branch with $5,200 for worshipping services. Educational infrastructure is another clear theme. Ohel Simcha Super Fund in Long Branch received $44,000 in 2025, $40,000 in 2024, and $15,000 in 2023 for educational building improvements and renovations. Hillel Yeshiva in Ocean Township received $26,750 in 2024, $26,000 in 2025, and $26,000 in 2023 for assistance in various community service educational activities. The foundation also gave $12,700 to Ilan High School in Deal for educational building improvements and renovations. For broader community services, it granted $6,613 to Congregation Magen David of West De in Ocean Township for the Labaton Memorial Fund.
