Mission
In its 10th year Upper Missouri Waterkeeper expanded its science-based advocacy efforts protecting clean water, and focused on using the law to ensure accountability for cleaning up polluted waters. Among the more notable successes was the successful defeat of unscientific state legislation aiming to roll back strong, science-based standards for nutrient pollution control and successful petition to EPA to uphold the federal Clean Water Act. Waterkeeper also partnered with senior water rights holders and generational ranchers to hold local government accountable to examine the offsite impacts of unfettered groundwater pumping, including protection of family farms, water rights, and headwater fishery habitat.
