Mission
The Health Wagon serves as the oldest free mobile clinic in the nation and embraces a mission that "provides compassionate, quality health care to the medically underserved people" in the impoverished mountains of Central Appalachia. The Health Wagon champions the values of inclusiveness, community outreach, collaboration, spirituality, and empowerment. It is a free nurse-managed health clinic consisting of two stationary and four mobile clinics. The Health Wagon serves as the only dedicated safety net for those living in the farthest part of Southwest Virginia. The clinics leadership in the healthcare sector has garnered notable recognition including interviews in media that include 60 Minutes, Nightline, CBS Nightly News, Inside Edition, Washington Post and the New York Times along with other extensive media attention regarding efforts to provide access to health care to the poor and marginalized population in the Appalachian region.
