Mission
THE KITCHEN IS ONE OF NEW YORK CITY'S OLDEST NONPROFIT ART CENTERS DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING ARTISTS WORKING WITHIN, AND ACROSS, THE FIELDS OF MUSIC, DANCE, THEATER, VIDEO AND FILM, ART, AND LITERATURE. FOUNDED IN 1971, THE KITCHEN HAS PIONEERED GENRE-DEFYING ART AND HELPED LAUNCH THE CAREERS OF MANY ARTISTS WHO HAVE DEFINED THE AMERICAN AVANT-GARDE. KNOWN FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING INSTRUMENTAL EARLY SUPPORT FOR ARTISTS WHO HAVE PROGRESSED TO LATER PROMINENCE, THE KITCHEN HAS BEEN A LEADING FORCE IN SHAPING THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE OF THIS COUNTRY FOR NEARLY FIVE DECADES.
