The West Hawaii Humane Society focuses almost exclusively on animal welfare in Hawaii, funding wildlife rehabilitation, local humane societies, and island-based animal rescue and education. Their grants are operational/support dollars to regional organizations—often repeated to the same recipients—showing a hands-on commitment to animal care, rescue, and public education across the Hawaiian islands.
West Hawaii Humane Society Inc’s recent giving is centered on animal welfare in Hawaii, with support flowing to wildlife rehabilitation, humane societies, and island rescue groups. A defining pattern is repeated operating support for the same core organizations, especially Hawaii Wildlife Center, which received $70,000 in 2024 and $50,000 in 2025. That kind of follow-on funding suggests an ongoing relationship rather than one-off project grants. The foundation also backs local animal rescue and education providers tied to specific islands and communities. Its grants have gone to Maui Humane Society, Kohala Animal Rescue & Education Center, Aloha Ilio Rescue, and other Hawaii-based groups working with shelter animals, injured wildlife, and public education. Grant purposes are consistently listed as support, indicating a preference for flexible funding that can help organizations cover day-to-day operations and service delivery. Across the recent grants list, the foundation’s work appears tightly aligned with direct animal care in Hawaii, including both wildlife and companion-animal services. The mix of recipients shows an emphasis on local capacity: rescue, rehabilitation, shelter support, and advocacy-related animal protection are all represented in the funding pattern.
In wildlife rehabilitation, West Hawaii Humane Society Inc gave $70,000 in 2024 and $50,000 in 2025 to Hawaii Wildlife Center for support. That repeated funding makes wildlife care one of the clearest throughlines in the portfolio. For shelter and humane society operations, the foundation awarded $50,000 to Maui Humane Society for support. It also gave $25,000 to Hawaii Island Humane Society, another signal that it backs organizations handling everyday animal care on the islands. Local rescue and education groups are another focus. The foundation provided $40,000 to Kohala Animal Rescue & Education Center Kares in 2025, $30,000 to Aloha Ilio Rescue, and $25,000 to Aloha Animal Oasis. These grants point to a mix of rescue, outreach, and community-based animal services. Animal advocacy appears as well: Advocats received $50,000 for support, showing that the portfolio extends beyond direct care into legal or advocacy-related protection.
The typical grant size is tightly clustered around $25,000, with a p25 of $25,000, a median of $25,000, and a p75 of $50,000. Recent awards also include larger support grants of $70,000, $50,000, $40,000, and $30,000, but the center of gravity remains at the $25,000 level. The pattern is repeat-oriented. Hawaii Wildlife Center appears in consecutive years, with support grants in 2024 and 2025, and several other recipients recur across the recent list. Every listed grant is marked as support, indicating operating-style funding rather than restricted project awards. The foundation does not fund individuals and does not make program-related investments.
