About Weingart Foundation

Weingart Foundation’s recent grantmaking is marked by a mix of major capital support, unrestricted operating grants, and pooled funds tied to racial justice, immigrant justice, and cultural infrastructure in California. One of the clearest signals is its repeated support for Destination Crenshaw: the foundation gave $2,000,000 in 2024 and another $1,000,000 in 2025 for a 1.3-mile outdoor art and cultural experience along the Crenshaw/LAX Metro line. That same place-based pattern appears in other large awards, including $1,000,000 for the California Black Freedom Fund and $1,000,000 for the Latino Power Fund. The foundation also backs institutions and intermediaries that move money into community-led work. Recent examples include unrestricted operating support to Southern California Grantmakers Fbo Angeleno Project, project support to Southern California Grantmakers, and capital support for Community Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment’s Center for Community Organizing. Alongside these grants, Weingart funded the development of the MLK Community Medical Group and supported the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, showing an interest in both community infrastructure and public-serving institutions.
