Safe Housing Grants
Who can apply: Designed for domestic violence and animal organizations building pet programs for survivors; applicants should be organizations serving survivors in their communities.
Our mission is to bring animals out of crisis and strengthen the bond between people and animals through emergency sheltering, disaster-relief services, financial assistance, and education. We accomplish this by engaging volunteers and supporters, collaborating with others, and maximizing the use of online technology.
A defining feature of United Animal Nations Dba Redrover’s grantmaking is its focus on keeping survivors of domestic violence and their pets safe together. The foundation backs pet-inclusive sheltering, emergency housing, and related support through programs such as Safe Housing Grants and DV Safe Housing Grants, alongside relief work for animals in crisis. Its recent grants show that this is not a narrow one-off interest: the same support structure appears across multiple years and in many communities, with large awards frequently directed to domestic violence shelters and allied organizations. One of the clearest examples is $100,000 to Family Crisis Support Services for safe housing, while another recurring pattern is $60,000 awards to shelters such as Domestic Violence Intervention Center and Tubman for the same purpose. The organization also supports awareness and outreach efforts connected to domestic violence and pets, including a large multi-year grant to Greater Good Charities. Across its programs, the foundation blends direct crisis assistance with shelter capacity, education, and pet-related safety planning.
Domestic violence survivor support is a central theme in the foundation’s recent giving. It awarded $60,000 to Domestic Violence Intervention Center for safe housing and another $60,000 to The Women's Safe House for the same purpose. Pet-inclusive sheltering is another clear line of work: $60,000 went to Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence for safe housing, and $60,000 to Alexandra House to support the same kind of shelter capacity. The foundation also funds outreach tied to domestic violence and pets, including $289,850 to Greater Good Charities for DV awareness outreach across 2025, 2024, and 2023. In addition, it supports crisis housing for families, as shown by $100,000 to Family Crisis Support Services for safe housing.
Typical awards cluster around a narrow middle range: p25 is $22,378, median grant size is $57,000, and p75 is $60,000. The recent grants list shows repeated support to some organizations across multiple years, including Greater Good Charities in 2025, 2024, and 2023. That pattern suggests sustained relationships alongside many single-year awards. The funder is a grantmaking organization and does not fund individuals. It also does not make program-related investments. Some programs accept unsolicited applications, including Safe Housing Grants, DV Safe Housing Grants, Emergency Boarding Assistance, and RedRover Urgent Care Grants.

Giving is national, and every recent grant in the sample went to U.S. recipients. Missouri appears as the top state by grant count, including awards to Finding Grace Ministries in Arnold and The Women's Safe House in St. Louis. Other repeat recipient locations include Minnesota, with grants to Tubman in Minneapolis, Alexandra House in Blaine, and Women's Advocates in St. Paul. Outside the Midwest, recent awards reached Seattle, Norton, and Baton Rouge, showing a broad U.S. footprint rather than a single-region pattern.
The foundation funds domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, and animal organizations, especially when they are building or expanding pet-friendly safe housing. It also supports emergency veterinary assistance, emergency boarding, and DV awareness outreach tied to pets and survivor safety.
The foundation’s grant sizes are tightly clustered: the 25th percentile is $22,378, the median is $57,000, and the 75th percentile is $60,000. Many recent safe housing awards were at $60,000.
Yes. Greater Good Charities received grants in 2025, 2024, and 2023, all for DV awareness outreach. That multiyear pattern appears alongside many one-year awards to shelters and domestic violence service organizations.
The data shows unsolicited applications are accepted for Safe Housing Grants, DV Safe Housing Grants, Emergency Boarding Assistance, and RedRover Urgent Care Grants. Other listed programs, including RedRover Relief — Domestic Violence Survivor Resources and Purple Leash Project, are marked as not accepting unsolicited applications.
