Capacity Building Grants (Foundation-wide)

Who can apply: Must be a 501(c)(3) public charity (IRC 509(a)(1),(2) or (3)). Projects must align with the Foundation’s mission and focus areas, benefit predominantly low-income and high-achieving youth, and operate in Austin, TX.

Deadline: No set deadlines; proposals evaluated continuously. Limit one submission per 12-month period. Foundation Board meets twice a year.

No One Way (N1W) Initiative

Who can apply: 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charities. The foundation will not fund individuals, non-public charities, international charitable organizations, or religious organizations unless the program is open to the entire community without regard to belief. For constructive dialogue, work should support leaders and the conditions that help them drive cultures of constructive dialogue; for pluralism in Central Texas, projects should create opportunities for Austinites to engage across differences and align with New Pluralists Collaborative strategy.

Deadline: Proposals are evaluated on a continuous basis throughout the year; no set deadlines.

Capacity Building Grants (within OYA)

Who can apply: Applicants must be education-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charities classified under IRS sections 509(a)(1), 509(a)(2), or 509(a)(3), operating in the Greater Austin area. The project must align with the Foundation’s mission and one of four OYA focus areas, build organizational capacity, benefit predominantly low-income youth (at least 50% of those served), and benefit predominantly high-achieving youth (generally at least two-thirds exceeding grade-level expectations or demonstrating superior aptitude). The Foundation generally does not fund individuals, non-public charities, international organizations, private schools, in-school programs for grades 4–12, or remedial programs. Religious organizations must offer programs open to the entire community without religious bias. Smaller organizations may not request more than 10% of their annual budget.

Opportunities for Youth Achievement (OYA) Initiative

Who can apply: Education-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations operating in Austin, Texas for Capacity Building Grants; organizations must be public charities under IRS rules. Capacity Building projects must align with the foundation’s mission and one of its four focus areas, build organizational capacity, benefit predominantly low-income youth (more than 50%), benefit predominantly high-achieving youth (at least 2/3 exceeding grade-level expectations and/or showing superior aptitude), and operate in Austin, TX. The foundation generally does not fund private schools, in-school programs for grades 4-12, or remedial programs.
