The Marc & Eva Stern Foundation concentrates on education-focused philanthropy, supporting both higher education (substantial gifts to colleges) and local educational initiatives (libraries, afterschool/education programs). Alongside education, the foundation funds cultural institutions (performing arts, synagogue), environmental/animal causes and local community services and health programs in the Los Angeles area. Grants mix larger institutional awards with smaller, local nonprofit support, suggesting both strategic one-off investments and community-level giving.
A standout feature of The Marc & Eva Stern Foundation’s recent giving is its repeated support for education at several levels, from large university grants to smaller awards for students and local learning programs. In the latest grants, Vanderbilt University received $95,044 and Dickinson College received $50,000, showing that higher education is a major part of the foundation’s portfolio. The foundation also funds local educational institutions and community learning efforts, including the Library Foundation of Los Angeles and Bridge Entertainment Labs. Its education support is not limited to colleges; it also appears in smaller grants to individual recipients in Vineland, New Jersey, which points to direct support alongside institutional philanthropy. Beyond education, the foundation has also backed cultural and community-serving organizations, including performing arts, animal welfare, and health-related groups. The pattern suggests a funder that mixes larger institutional awards with modest community-level grants, while keeping a strong connection to education as a recurring theme across its grantmaking.

Vanderbilt University received $95,044 for education, and Dickinson College received $50,000 for the same purpose, indicating substantial support for higher education institutions. At the local level, the Library Foundation of Los Angeles was awarded $10,000 for education, which fits the foundation’s interest in literacy and public learning resources. The foundation also funded Bridge Entertainment Labs with $10,000 for education, showing support for education programs beyond traditional campuses. Its education giving includes smaller grants as well, such as multiple $2,500 awards to individuals in Vineland, New Jersey. Outside education, the foundation supported community services and social welfare through The Farm Collaborative and Mlk Community Health Foundation, and it also made grants in performing arts and arts and culture.
