Larry and Helen Hoag Foundation

About Larry and Helen Hoag Foundation

The Larry and Helen Hoag Foundation’s giving is dominated by a long-running relationship with Orange County Music & Dance, including a $1,650,000 grant in 2024 and a $1,432,253 grant in 2025. That pattern points to a funder that sustains established local organizations rather than rotating broadly across many beneficiaries. Across its recent grants, the foundation supports community-based programming tied to music, dance, youth services, education, and children’s well-being, with nearly all grant dollars landing in California. The foundation’s largest recent awards also show how concentrated its portfolio is. It gave $725,000 to The Molina Foundation in 2024, and multiple grants of $500,000 and $333,333 to organizations such as Orangewood Children Foundation, Orange County School of the Arts, High School Inc, Olive Crest, YMCA of LA (Downey), and Samueli Academy. The recipients are largely Southern California public charities working in community programs and services, neighborhood engagement and outreach, and local recreational and social programming. Its grantmaking looks relationship-driven and place-based, with a strong emphasis on organizations serving local residents, especially children and young people. The foundation also supports a small number of grants outside Orange County, but its recent pattern remains tightly centered on Southern California organizations and recurring beneficiaries.
