The Fullerton Family Charitable Fund makes a small number of very large grants concentrated in arts/culture, health, and local Aspen institutions, with an emphasis on general operating support. They repeatedly fund a handful of organizations (several with multiple grants) spanning cultural preservation/production, elite medical institutions, and K–12 education, with a secondary interest in financial capability work.
Concentrated, high-dollar giving to a small slate of repeat grantees; grants are primarily unrestricted/ general operating and issued in multiple installments to core organizations rather than many small one-off gifts.
The Fullerton Family Charitable Fund’s recent giving is marked by repeated six-figure general operating grants to a small set of organizations, especially The Better Angels Society, The Mayo Clinic, and St Rita’s School. That pattern points to a funder that backs core budgets rather than tightly defined projects, with support extending across arts and culture, health, education, and Aspen-based civic institutions. In the grants list, The Better Angels Society received $1,133,333 in 2024 and $733,333 in 2025, while The Mayo Clinic received $600,000 in 2023 and $1,000,000 in 2025. St Rita’s School also appears three times at $325,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Alongside those national commitments, the fund has funded Aspen institutions such as The Aspen Institute, Aspen Music Festival and School, Theatre Aspen, Aspen Words, and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. The overall picture is of a family fund making concentrated, recurring grants to organizations it already knows, with general operating support used across very different fields.
Arts and cultural work appears in multiple forms. The fund gave $1,133,333 in 2024 and $733,333 in 2025 to The Better Angels Society for general operations, and it also supported Timeline Theatre with $100,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025. In Aspen, it backed Aspen Music Festival and School with $350,000 in 2024 and $110,000 in 2023, plus $80,000 to Theatre Aspen in 2024 and 2025. Health-related giving is centered on institutional support rather than a specific project. The Mayo Clinic received $600,000 in 2023 and $1,000,000 in 2025, both for general operations. Education is another recurring lane. St Rita’s School received $325,000 in each of 2023, 2024, and 2025. The fund also gave $100,000 in 2025 to Colorado Mountain College Foundation and $130,000 in 2024 to English in Action.
Typical grant size is $10,000 at the 25th percentile, $25,000 at the median, and $72,500 at the 75th percentile, but the recent list also includes many much larger awards in the hundreds of thousands and above. The fund repeatedly supports the same recipients across multiple years, including The Mayo Clinic, St Rita’s School, The Aspen Institute, Timeline Theatre, and Theatre Aspen. All listed grants are general operations, pointing to unrestricted support for core budgets. The foundation does not fund individuals and does not make program-related investments.
