The Carl R Kuehner III Foundation concentrates its giving on a small number of established national and international nonprofits, providing mostly general/unrestricted support. The foundation’s largest and most frequent beneficiary is UNICEF, but it also funds conservation and coastal restoration efforts as well as performing arts organizations, indicating a cross-cutting interest in humanitarian relief, environmental stewardship, and cultural institutions.
Concentrated, discretionary giving: a few relatively large, general/unrestricted grants with repeat support to a primary grantee (UNICEF) alongside one-off sizable gifts to conservation and arts organizations.
The Carl R Kuehner III Foundation’s recent giving is anchored by repeated unrestricted support for the United States Fund for UNICEF, including $100,000 grants in both 2023 and 2024 and another $25,000 grant in 2025. That pattern signals a funder that backs established organizations with flexible support rather than tightly scoped project grants. The foundation also extends this approach to a small set of other nonprofits working in conservation, coastal restoration, and the arts. Across the latest grants on file, its support includes Ducks Unlimited for wetlands and waterfowl conservation, Billion Oyster Project for urban coastal restoration and environmental education, and American Friends of the Paris Opera & Ballet for classical performing arts and cultural exchange. The grant list also shows smaller awards to Habitat for Humanity of Collier County, Madison Square Park Conservancy, and the Polish National Youth Baseball Foundation. Taken together, the portfolio points to a foundation that funds a limited number of organizations, often at meaningful levels, with general and unrestricted support as a consistent feature of its grantmaking.
International humanitarian relief is a clear thread in the foundation’s work. It gave $25,000 to the United States Fund for UNICEF in 2025, following $100,000 grants to the same organization in 2024 and 2023, all listed as general and unrestricted support. Environmental work appears in two distinct forms. The foundation awarded $50,000 to Ducks Unlimited Inc for general and unrestricted support, and $20,000 to Billion Oyster Project for the same purpose. Those grants point to interest in wetlands, habitat protection, and coastal restoration. The arts also receive support. In 2025, The Carl R Kuehner III Foundation gave $35,000 to American Friends of the Paris Opera & Ballet as general and unrestricted funding. Smaller grants to Madison Square Park Conservancy and the Polish National Youth Baseball Foundation show that the portfolio extends beyond a single cause area.
Typical grant size centers on mid-sized awards: the p25 is $10,000, the median is $25,000, and the p75 is $50,000. The recent record also includes repeated larger gifts, including two $100,000 grants to the same nonprofit in consecutive years. Most awards are listed as general and unrestricted, indicating flexible operating support rather than restricted project funding. The recipient list shows continuity around a small set of organizations, with one grantee appearing across multiple years.
