The Ann and Buck Woodruff Family Foundation concentrates its giving on education, with a large portion of funds supporting a single charter school and a sizable grant to a science/charitable foundation. Their grants suggest a focus on K–12 academic programs and STEM-related or broadly charitable educational initiatives, likely privileging direct program support to schools and education nonprofits. The foundation appears to make few but sizable awards rather than many small grants.
Highly concentrated giving: very few (two) large grants totaling $516,666, with the majority directed to a single charter school; favors sizable, targeted awards over broad distribution.
The Ann and Buck Woodruff Family Foundation Inc made its largest recent grant to Summit Charter School, awarding $366,666 in 2025. That single award captures the foundation’s pattern of concentrating support in education, especially K–12 schooling, rather than spreading funds broadly across many small grants. Its recent giving also includes a sizable $150,000 grant to Sci Foundation and a $100,000 grant to Sheperd Center Foundation, showing that education and charitable institutions both sit within its grantmaking mix. The foundation appears to favor institutional support, with several grants directed to schools, school funds, and nonprofit foundations tied to educational or charitable purposes. Grant sizes range from modest five-figure awards to a much larger lead grant, but the overall picture is of selective, program-oriented giving. The recent record suggests an emphasis on organizations that can channel funds into academic programs, school operations, or related charitable activity.
Education is the clearest theme in the foundation’s recent grants. It gave $366,666 to Summit Charter School for educational support, and another $12,000 to Battle Ground Academy for educational purposes. School-linked giving also appears in the $12,000 grant to Schneck School Annual Fund and the $10,000 grant to The Ansley School. Beyond schools, the foundation supports charitable organizations connected to science, culture, and community life. Examples include $150,000 to Sci Foundation for charitable purposes and $5,000 to High Museum of Art for charitable support. It also backed several place-based charities in the Highlands area, including Highlands-Cashiers Health Foundation, Highlands Community Fund, and Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust, each at $15,000.
Typical award sizes cluster in the five-figure range: the 25th percentile is $10,000, the median is $15,000, and the 75th percentile is $45,000. That distribution sits alongside one very large grant, indicating a concentrated style rather than a wide microgrant portfolio. The 2025 list shows a mix of school support and charitable gifts, with grants mostly made in fixed amounts and not as a recurring small-award program. The foundation is a family foundation, and it does not fund individuals or make program-related investments.
