The Adi and Jerry Greenberg Foundation concentrates its giving on arts and education, with particularly large, unrestricted awards to performing arts organizations and an elite K–12 school. Grants are few but sizable and often designated as general/operating support, suggesting a preference for sustained institutional funding rather than project-specific awards. While the foundation is Boston-based, its visible grantmaking is geographically focused on Los Angeles-area cultural institutions and select higher-education beneficiaries.
The Adi and Jerry Greenberg Foundation’s visible grantmaking is defined by sizable general-purpose support for Los Angeles arts institutions and schools, with repeated awards to Geffen Playhouse and Brentwood School. The foundation has also backed No Limits Theater Group in Culver City with multiple grants across 2023 to 2025, showing a pattern of continued support rather than one-off gifts. Its giving sits comfortably in the five- and six-figure range, and many awards are labeled for general purposes, which points to flexible support for recipient organizations. Arts and education are the clearest throughlines. In the arts, the foundation has funded theater and performance organizations in Los Angeles on a recurring basis, including Geffen Playhouse and No Limits Theater Group. In education, it has made large awards to independent K–12 schools such as Brentwood School and Windward School, along with support for education-related institutions like The UCLA Foundation. The overall profile suggests a funder that favors established institutions and uses unrestricted grants to reinforce operating capacity.
In performing arts, the foundation has backed Geffen Playhouse Inc with repeated general-purpose grants, including $600,000 in 2025, $515,000 in 2024, and $322,000 in both 2023 and 2024. It also supported No Limits Theater Group Inc in Culver City with $295,500 in 2025 and additional grants of $173,750 in 2024 and 2023, plus $145,000 in 2024. Education is another clear area. Brentwood School received $1,150,000 in 2024, along with additional general-purpose grants of $200,000 in 2024 and 2023. Windward School was awarded $250,000 in 2024 and $50,000 grants in 2025, 2024, and 2023, and Windward School Innovation Campaign received $200,000 in both 2023 and 2024. The foundation also made selective grants outside those core areas, including $500,000 to Friends of McGill University Inc and $25,000 to The UCLA Foundation, both for general purposes.
Typical grants cluster tightly: the p25, median, and p75 are $5,000, $5,000, and $10,000. That said, the recent grants file shows many awards far above that range, including multiple six-figure gifts. The pattern is recurring rather than one-off, with several organizations appearing across consecutive years and, in some cases, multiple times in the same year. The foundation is a regular funder, not a DAF vehicle, and it does not fund individuals or make program-related investments. Most listed awards are for general purposes, indicating flexible support rather than tightly restricted project funding.
