The A&V Kulaev Cultural Heritage Fund focuses on supporting arts organizations and cultural programming with an emphasis on making arts accessible, alongside targeted investments in K–12 student success and children’s educational media. Grants tend to support programming and exhibitions (contemporary craft and theater production), arts access initiatives (affordable/free tickets, community outreach), and media that addresses social-emotional topics for children. The foundation gives repeat, mid-sized awards to a small set of mission-aligned organizations rather than broad one-off funding.
The A&v Kulaev Cultural Heritage Fund’s clearest pattern is its repeated support for arts access and culturally specific programming, often through multi-year grants to the same organizations. One thread runs through theater and performance: Second Stage Theatre received three separate $25,000 grants across 2023, 2024, and 2025 to help reopen safely, resume productions, and cover safety precautions across three theaters. Another runs through children’s arts and media, where the fund backed puppetry, reading, and social-emotional programming through Players Philanthropy Fund. The foundation also supports exhibitions and material-focused art programming, including contemporary craft and design projects at Craft Contemporary and public-facing arts events in Massachusetts and beyond. Its work is not limited to arts presentation; it also funds K–12 student support and children’s books through school-related and educational organizations. Across these awards, the fund tends to favor project-based support for programming, exhibitions, productions, and audience access rather than broad unrestricted giving.
In theater and performance, the fund has supported both production and access. Second Stage Theatre received grants in 2023, 2024, and 2025 for reopening safely, resuming productions, and covering safety precautions for three theaters. The fund also backed The Fire Department Theatre Company for production and distribution of a new opera on Jewish African American relations, and Spire Center for Performing Arts for a lobby series featuring New England folk, blues, and jazz artists. Children’s media and literacy are another clear theme. Players Philanthropy Fund received support for Mr. Clown & Friends, including puppetry for teaching reading and values, and later for children’s television programming and school events about bullying, diversity, and mental health. St Vrain Valley Educational Foundation was funded for books in English or Spanish for young school children and their families. The foundation also supports exhibitions and cultural interpretation, including a grant to Craft Contemporary for Contemporary Nature Near: Material Experimentation in Architecture and Design.
Typical awards are mid-sized: p25 is $10,000, median grant size is $15,000, and p75 is $22,250. The recent grant list shows repeated support to the same recipients across multiple years, including Second Stage Theatre, Players Philanthropy Fund, Craft Contemporary, Songwriting With Soldiers Inc, 47 Palmer Inc, Kurt Vonnegut Library and Museum, and National Comedy Center. That pattern points to recurring project support rather than one-time awards. The fund is a private foundation and does not fund individuals. The recent grants are primarily project-based, with some general support or safety-related support also appearing in the record.
